Remove the "Lock" button on Pick/Ban already Riot!

Who thought this was a good idea, and why?

Let me tell you why it's not:

Locking in a pick is an extra hurdle.

  • A ToS agreement with Apple has less user input required than picking my champion to play for a game. I just want to select the champion I'd like to play, and get to the game.
  • I don't want to select the champion, lock in my pick, and then get into a game. Even grammatically, locking in a pick sounds like a hurdle.

Locking in a pick discards valuable planning time.

  • 10 seconds to make the right decision is critical to the impact of the rest of the game, especially if my champion was just banned or picked.

Que Dodge punishments

  • I'm a rebel. Nobody tells me how to select a champion, except Riot seems to want me to so badly use their shiny new rendered button, which I hate very much. Of course, being a rebel to this comes with punishments in the form of que dodge penalties (which is why I have the time to write this right now). I selected my champion, thoughtfully, taking full advantage of my available time and selected runes and masteries and I feel good about the upcoming game, except, I have to wait out 30min because I failed to "lock" in my pick.
  • Punishes players for using their entire planning time.

Locking in is perverse, and damning

  • Yes, I really do think that. When I think of "lock" I can think of the snap a lock makes, shutting down any further progress of whatever is locked in any direction.
  • Locked up, Locked out, and other uses of the word "lock" have a negative connotation. I didn't want to slap an iron cuff onto my wrist playing this game.

No Value Added Process

  • The biggie, locking in your pick is UNNECESSARY if I had selected a champion within my round of picking.
  • No power-ups, special features, decisive action, or planning motive added.
  • Not "locking in" is punishable as compared to "locking in."

So, I can only assume the necessity to "Lock-in" comes from already having pre-selected champions, in which the playing environment can change an players will need to confirm their picks. "Locking in" could also weed out AFK players who select way early in the picking process and do not actively engage in the pick-ban cycle.

Either way, I'm tired of getting Que dodge penalties because I forget to "lock-in". This is still new to me, and the hardest part of League at the moment.

So I can propose two things: 1.) Change "Lock" to "Confirm" or something less iron clad sounding. 2.) If a champion is picked during his election cycle, by the end of the countdown any champion selected is automatically confirmed.

Please and thank you in advance.

Out of all the things you could complain about, you decide to complain about clicking one damn button in champ select?

This is Riot's game. I just want to play it.

There can be trolls in a game, bad comps, bad mechanics, bad anything. None of that matters when I can't even get into the game.

Fun Fact: You can still select a champion even after Pick Intent.

Of course, if you decided to Alt+Tab out & got the punishment, it's all on you, not NCS.

My emphasis isn't Pick Intent. The countdown timer makes it so that I have to reserve the last 3 or so seconds to lock in my pick rather than decisively choosing.

it's meant to speed up the selection process, but everyone waits will the last 1-5 seconds to lock in anyways, it densest even serve its purpose and on the off chance that everyone locks in immediately the game starts like 5 min sooner, that's assuming all 10 players lock-in instantly when its their time to pick. but i have yet to see that happen, at most I've seen 2 min spared OMG game started loading 2 min earlier than expected.

So then you can agree, it's entirely unnecessary to mandate even pressing it? By someone not pressing it, it eats up more time by having to re-que than actually pressing the damn thing.

I think its dumb, but I can see why they did it, unfortunately there is no way to tell if you actually forgot to lock in or just trying to dodge, so they have to add punishment everyone equally, and over all I'm sure games start faster if you look at averages, and some people do lock instantly, you'll get used to eventually, I imagine you wouldn't enjoy waiting for 16 30 sec second count downs, then to have someone dodge last minute and do it all again take you like 20 min to start a game, so like i said i just don't like it, I don't think having it changed too much, but from one extreme to the other being everyone locks-in right away to no one locking it all, I would prefer the locking in option.

But If I'm actively making choices and engaged in the chat, not locking in lets anybody dodge even easier. Why would people want dodging to happen more easily than ever before? I would prefer it be the old fashioned logout method, so that it is consciously done.

Honestly dude, at most its an annoyance at best your games start faster, I've only missed it once cause i didn't know about it, its just a right click and really isn't as big a deal as you're trying to make it. If you've gone more than 3 games without learning to just lock in you have bigger problems, I wouldn't want you on my team, cause clearly learning/adapting isn't your strong suite

Think of it this way, if you have a 1992+ automatic car, you press the brake and move the gear selector. In some newer model cars, you have to do that plus move it to the left or right in order to select D instead of D2 or D3. Sideways shifting seems like a good idea in an automatic car, but's largely unnecessary because a modern person can realize that at driving 6K RPM for a good 100ft definitely means something.

All I'm suggesting, is by selecting "Lock in" or the same champion again during your selection round, that should be adequate enough to pass the AFK-Involvement test. By selecting a champion when I'm suppose to select one, I kind of already know what I want and don't need an extra hurdle to get there.
