Riot......you ruined the one good thing you had going for you. Ranked play.

I do not care if this gets downvoted to hell or even upvoted, this is a general opinion post which is what the boards is all about, general community opinion. I also know this will not shed any light to Riot, majority of the time Riot just responds to the Memes and Games posts to avoid any possible admittance that they are wrong or have made any mistakes. But over the past month or so, you can just tell that the enjoyment of playing ranked games has declined.

  • With Riot's initiation of making games shorter, I feel like they went about this all wrong. However, when you think about it, there really isn't a good way to make games shorter. So, in my opinion, this was just bad for game play.
  • Dynamic queue is probably just a under-the-rug way of making games shorter. Riot thought "Hey, lets make a way that looks really good on our part (Teaming up with a now uncapped amount of friends) and saying we'll almost guarantee that your queue type will face other queue types.". This has been an epic fail. Probably 90% of the time its quadro vs solo queue and the result is mostly the same, a surrender at 20 minutes for the solo squad. Shorter games, accomplished. -Turrets not doing jack, death timers that spun out of control, and them having their favorite champs in which fake nerfs are all too common just add fuel to the fire. -Toxicity I would say is at an all time high as a seasoned veteran of league who has been playing from season 2.
  • You have a champ basis that exceeds 110 champs and yet, 20% of champs are constantly played. A vast majority of those champs are broken and yet, the same amount of bans are given to us to try to minimize a 30-5 champ.
  • The general opinion I am seeing of winning and losing is "who gives a shit". Snowballing is all too easy. -You have gotten rid of Dominion which was a fan favorite, forcing more people to switch over to the Rift, for what reason I have no idea.

I leave with an example game that I played a couple of days ago. I picked Kassadin, a champ who used to be OP but was nerfed to the ground never to be seen again. My team at about the 10 minute mark were down about 30-5 in kills. We were just getting dump rolled. By the 20 minute mark, they pushed to our nexus turrets. The funny thing is, the entire game all 10 of us were /all chatting laughing about how bad the game has become. For some random reason, the enemy team decided it would be more fun to throw than win. And therefore they did. They would suicide to turrets, try fighting 1v5, and die to Baron. We won the game and everyone just laughed in post-game.

There are bad times for a game when people just stop trying to do what the whole point of the game is, win competitively. This game is not competitive anymore. It's about who can pick the broken champ in the quadro vs solo queue and force your "quicker game" surrender.

That game is not a very good indication of how the game is bad. You guys got dumpstered early, like destroyed beyond compare (you should never die 30 times in 10 minutes) which has nothing to do with the state of the game, but rather that you played very poorly. Them trying to 1v5 and constantly throwing has nothing to do with the state of the game either, if it was in the state that you have most enjoyed during your time playing league, they would have still lost for throwing over and over again.

If you don't enjoy the game anymore you don't have to play it, taking a break might make you enjoy it down the road.

What about the bullet points which are all common trends right now?

I will just address each bullet with my opinion on each subject.

  1. I don't think bullet one is an issue.

  2. Yes I agree dynamic queue was a misfire but its really not as bad as everyone thinks, it only really effects high elo players.

  3. Every online game has toxicity, I remember all of the toxic 12 year olds on COD and this is no different.

  4. The nature of this game is that some champions are better than others, but you can be successful on almost any champ if you play it well enough (not counting the highest of ELO or LCS). Yes some champions will be picked more than others, this isn't Dota where everyone gets picked because every hero counters another hero, but every champion can be played to success. Most of the people complaining about broken champions are not even really effected by the fact that they are inherently stronger than others because at lower elos any champion can be strong. There are master AD malz players, AP Shaco players, Twitch Jungle, so it is just a matter of playing a champion well.

  5. If people don't care about winning or losing its not that big a deal, as long as they try their best in each game who cares if you win or lose. When you care about winning so much that you tilt whenever you lose it is going to end up hurting more than it helps. It is a game that is suppose to be fun, so if you try your best to play well who cares if you end up losing.

  6. Yes dominion had a loyal following, but it was a small following none the less. It was overrun by bots and the cost of keeping it going was higher than the satisfaction of the overall fanbase was getting from it.

These are my thoughts, feel free to let me know your response.
