Gaining ELO really isn't hard, you make it hard.

My friends ask me all the time how do I climb or how do I carry these bad teamates, etc.

Then I look at their match history or smurf some games with them and it gets super clear super fast. They try to play every role. They try to play every champion. They keep telling me they can play the champs/roles yet they never do well or break even and call it a lane win.

Just had a friend in a smurf game first time Graves jungle assuring me that he knows how to play it, ended 3-11-3 while blamming the troll team. We did have a feeding Jihn support, but like...he did 12k damage to jihn support's 11k while I did 42k damage...Like, you can't question why you can't rank when you play like an idiot.

Pick a handful of champs, pick 1-2 roles. Stick to them. Learn them. Don't play anything else unless forced to. You shouldn't play more than 1-2 champs per role until you learn the game and learn those characters which takes a long time.

You can't play every role. You can't even play 1 role if you are in low ELO. Stick to something and play it non-stop till you get it down to a science. Learn every matchup, even the bad matchups and figure out how you can survive and/or beat them. Please stop first timing a damn champion in ranked.

It just drives me nuts that these people think they deserve a better rank and think they are better than they actually are when they haven't learned a single role, but claim they know them all and their teamates are holding them back.

Some people are bad and just need coaching and to learn the game, while others have the general idea of how to play but don't know how to execute it. There is NOTHING wrong with being bad. Just don't go blamming your team when you aren't even playing well yourself. Breaking even in lane isn't carrying unless you were non-stop ganked and still managing not to die/lose lane.
