Riot sets a meta no matter how much they say they don't.

Currently high burst damage champs with great mobility/escape and maybe little tanky dominate the meta. Riots game designers have told us in the past they hate champs with sustain and don't like hard cc. Well guess what kills and stops champs like zed instagibbing someone or allows them to survive burst of jarvan? Sustain and hard CC.

Riot has nerfed all sustain champs. Vlad, mordekaiser, aatrox etc. Nerfed all the hard cc in game, annies stun early game deletion of old sion. So now what do you get? A meta with safe pick champs with no real counters. Note if riot hasn't nerfed their sustain or cc capabilities they nerfed their damage like gragas.

No, pros set the meta, Riot balances around it.

Edit: That being said, heavy amounts of sustain isn't really that enjoyable. Have you ever played a melee against a Nasus? Or a burst mage against Vlad? "Alright, I got him low, now I can oh...he is sitting under tower healing back to full slowly...well then."

It has been like that for ages.

Although I don't blame Riot alone. Everytime you see someone asking for buffs to weaker champs like Morde, Diana or w.e, you see an army of people going "omg, please no, they will become monsters if they get buffed, I don't want to deal with that".

This community is comfortably sitting there, rotating between picks like Zed, Syndra, Ahri and Orianna fotms and doesn't want anything to disrupt that, that would be too much trouble to learn to play against.

The difference of sustain champs is now that they cannot go mid anymore, due to the bloody morello, then they go top and beat the crap out of bruiser instrad...

The entire concept of Riot's balance philosophy is to cater to Professionals. If they see someone is over-performing they nerf it, under-performing, they buff it. Professionals are the "Beta testers" for champion limitations. Riot just removes viability from the champion to allow them to fit perfectly in the current meta. We all see how that's working. They patch for the now, not for the later.
