Custom Items Lists

So i noticed that on the new client i can no longer make or access custom lists. Or at least find them. Does anyone know if this feature will be added back in the future or where to find it if it is there?

In brief:

  • Riot wanted to remove it because not enough people used it
  • There was a huge community uproar, so now they've hesitantly said that they are going to think about re-adding it at some point in the future, but that it certainly won't be in the initial version of the new client (in other words, we won't see it until after the old client is completely removed.)
  • In the mean time, you can use this site, which is an up-to-date, browser-based item set editor. It is not made or supported by Riot (nor me). http://lol.item-set.com

Another option is to update you item sets in the old client and then load into a custom game with them to send them server-side. After that the new client will pull it from the server-saved copy.

If you use global itemsets there are some further steps you need to take to get this across champions.

O.o What's the extra catch? Please tell me they don't have to load in with each individual champ.

Yes and no but I have a simple system to do it. First, go to where the config files are. For me that is C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config\Champions<whatever champion you did the custom game in>\Recommended, and copy those back up to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config. There should be 5 RIOT_ ItemSet_#.json files (Note there are _s, but the formatting of this boards makes it turn ItemSet to italics). Those are the ones I copy. Specifically, the _1 Itemset is the Summoner's Rift itemset. Other ones may be there if you do custom itemsets by champion.

Then I run this in a hand created .bat file.

FOR /D %%F in ("Champions*") DO copy Riot_ItemSet_1.json "%%F\Recommended\Riot_ItemSet_1.json" FOR /D %%F in ("Champions*") DO copy Riot_ItemSet_2.json "%%F\Recommended\Riot_ItemSet_2.json" FOR /D %%F in ("Champions*") DO copy Riot_ItemSet_3.json "%%F\Recommended\Riot_ItemSet_3.json" FOR /D %%F in ("Champions*") DO copy Riot_ItemSet_4.json "%%F\Recommended\Riot_ItemSet_4.json" FOR /D %%F in ("Champions*") DO copy Riot_ItemSet_5.json "%%F\Recommended\Riot_ItemSet_5.json"

pause

This copies all of those to each champion folder.

I knew it ROFL. Yuck. Ty for the detailed response. I'm sure it will help many others save some time.

I'm bad at the script language this uses. I wish I could just skip the 'copy to higher folder' step, but am too lazy to google how to reference like I'd need to. :) I"m always way more willing to put this out there because it was insanely frustrating for me and I was so excited when I figured it out.

See my reply to him, it's a lot simpler to make global itemsets than he though.

There's a far simpler way to make an item set global. There's a folder that doesn't exist by default which you can put the item set json file into to make it shared across all champions.

Try saving/copying a single item set to here: C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config\Global\Recommended\

The documentation for this can be found at https://developer.riotgames.com/ ... but it looks like someone at Riot messed something up while rebooting the server. It's happened a few times before, should be back up in a few hours.

Thanks for the additional info. That does seem simpler and safer to do.

As the other comments below have noted, while that is an option, it's extremely convoluted - especially when you realise you've forgotten some essential item (like boots, or pink wards) and have to re-do the entire process just to add that one item.

I'd recommend the above-linked item creator, because it just runs in your browser and allows you to quickly put the item sets into your game without having to quit the new client or jump through hoops. Plus, when you create a new item set, it automatically fills in the standard item set for that champion as a starting point (a feature that I requested in the release thread and the author added almost immediately!)

The only downside is that the sort order and filtering of the items is a bit peculiar, so sometimes you need to search to find your desired items quickly.

I believe it's currently the best option we have.

Thanks for the extra info. I wanted to list hopping into the old client as an option though for those users who aren't comfortable enough with file modification/replacement to use the browser-based item set editor. Yes it's a "simple" concept, but there are those out there who get antsy about trying it for whatever reason.
