FQC and Eye of the Watchers (EotW?) are pretty great on non support roles too, now
Before you gang up and downvote me: I may want to remind you that assassins like Zed build BoTRK for its active, even if there's an auto attacking passive attached to it along with AS.
I'm not saying it shouldn't. It has problems but the active makes it worth the slot. But it suffers from a bad build path, forcing you to take attack speed on an AD caster unless you want to hoard gold then buy the item with more than 2k gold sitting in your pocket.
Now for FQC.
It gives a slow like , it gives mana regen, it gives gold, etc.
BUT
The passive is upgraded, it no longer disables upon killing a minion. Only its final upgrades (Eye, Frost Queen) allow you to get extra gold on top of CSing, instead of completely replacing CSing.
Now for some math (I need to trademark this, seriously) 45 gold per 30 seconds from passive or 15 gold per 10 seconds 2 gold per 10 seconds from stats or 6 gold per 30 seconds Total of 17 gold per 10, 51 gold per 30 seconds, or 8.5 gold per 5 seconds. This is the only gold generating support passive that is theoretically unaffected by minions. I think it's to balance and give identity to the AP Carry supports like Vel and Annie, who have expensive builds.
- EotW
- 25 AP
- 150% mana regen
- 200 health
- FQC
- 60 second cooldown Twin-Shadow-like active. The cooldown implies you should ward well, and that this is for peel and engage.
- 50 AP
- 150% mana regen.
- 10% CDR
- Twin Shadows
- 120 second cooldown active, if you fail to get a champ with one ghost it's 80 seconds. If you fail that, 40 seconds. Much less punishing for using it to scout, but usually twice the cooldown when used to chase or peel (as one person can hit both ghosts most of the time)
- 80 AP
- 6% movespeed
- 10% CDR
