What does a Fighter/Mage come with?

i find from the 4 fighter/mages (i looked in champ selection so, add more if you find i missed a few) What exactly is this role supposed to fulfill? not necessarily dps.. not necessarily tankiness, not necessarily usefulness? (i just want diana out of it).. However, I cant say i know what to expect from the primary fighter and secondary mage role.. seems they may have move speed buffs. melee.. perhaps some soft cc or come with damage or a shield. anybody specialize in this seemingly very niche role?

It's the type of top laner you need for when your mid is AD.

you mean meta breaking? or the few ad champs designated for mid? Yasuo Zed Talon (help me if i missed anybody)

Our mid is AD in about a third of my games (and in another third the enemies have one). Depending on who your support is, you either have one AP ( Karma Lux Zyra ...) or none at all ( Leona Braum Janna ...), which makes it easy for enemy tanks to get unkillable by stacking armor. Thus it is good to have one more AP either in the top lane or in the jungle. This is the Fighter/Mage and Tank/Mage niche (the likes of Diana Elise Gragas Nunu ...)
