Any tips for those wanting to play Solo Ranked?

Nikushimi Zero··2 votes·861 views

First, I hope this is in the correct area. It is "Gameplay" so maybe? I hope so. Anyways...

As the title suggests, does anyone have any tips for those wanting to go into ranked solo? I ask mainly for myself as I usually play alone. Rarely with friends and I don't have a mic or anything to even remotely talk to friends to play on a team.

I stopped playing Summoners Rift normal Draft and Blind when there was too much drama and not enough teamwork. I know that Ranked is quite more drama like and ragey. This is why I stayed far away from it, but I've always wanted to try and play. Maybe gain some ranks or something. Idk. I'm not the best player, but I'm not the worst either.

Though, the fact of how stigmatic it is in terms of how ruthless people are has made me hesitant in even trying. That the rage and ruthless anger of people in ranked would ruin the whole team due to loss of teamwork.

As someone who plays solo this is a big deterrence for me. However, I would like to try, and hey. Who knows, maybe the tips people give here might help people in the future. Thanks!

NEVER let the actions of other and/or defeat dictate the next match [slayer-pantheon-thumbs] a positive mindset leads to positive results my friend!

Definitely something I try to keep. Thanks for the feedback. ^_^

Honestly, if you don't like normals summoner's rift, you're not going to like ranked summoner's rift. It's the exact same game, one just has a pretty border.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

It's not like I don't like Summoners Rift. I was getting tired of my teammates negative attitudes.

-Don't flame your teamamtes. That won't ever help the situation. EVER

  • Never surrender, Never give up. Even if the game seems like it is a for sure loss, just dont ff. Anything can be turned around. -Always keep a positive mindset when playing ranked. -Don't get upset about losing LP/MMR. Learn from your failure and improve from your mistakes. -Learn to deal with childish people who get mad at almsot everyone but themselves. #mutethem -If you are getting upset with ranked, take a break from it and go play some normals or something. If you keep playing in a bad attitude it will affect your gameplay.

I rarely ever flame my teammates. I might argue with them, but I rarely flame. I once had a horrible match where my teammates were flaming me because they left me alone up top against two champions, and whenever I asked jungle to help, they didn't. So they ended up blaming me because I was getting gangked not only by the two up top, but their jungler as well. They had like 2 top, one jungler, one mid, and one bot.

Usually my teammates are the one flaming others and wanting to surrender.

So, basically the tip is to just keep a cool head? I think I can do that.

TheDiff1 votes

Yeah, don't let the childish people get to you. They are legit everywhere until you reach like plat, and even then they are still existant.

Dude, even if the game is 1% winnable, it's not really worth it lol.

TheDiff1 votes

That is not the right attitude! you are playing the league of throws. You are playing League of Legends. Play to win, always. Never surrender, never give up. Even if MF has 20 kills. focus her down and build armor. Or try split pushing. Anything can be turned around.

PDE5 Inhibitors1 votes

Oh I play to win, but I'm not for wasting my time. Also, many people just don't deserve to be carried anyway lol. I mean, I don't ff if my team is actually listening to me on how we can come back...but chances are if they are the type of people to listen, we wouldn't be so far behind to begin with lol.

Pick a role and champ that can carry, thus means you should avoid roles like adc and support as they are heavily reliant on your laning partner

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

True.

Personally I like playing as Varus and Diana. Whenever I play Diana I like going mid or top because I suck at Jungling for the main fact is I don't know how that well or what to do when. Like monsters to kill. Where I go after killing the initial monsters, when to go after dragon, when to gank, when not to gank, should I take the kill on a gank or not, etc. etc.

I prefer sticking with mid or bot. Sometimes top if I have help from my jungler.

I used to main Fiora as well until her rework. She doesn't work very well in ganks imo because of the rework unless she is ahead. Her abilities just aren't meant for more than one person anymore imo. shrugs

But anyways, thanks for the feedback! I might try a few matches of ranked. Just to see myself.

Honestly? My only advice is try and relax and enjoy the game. You'll have awesome teammates, you'll have horrible teammates, but as long as you don't get too worked up over what your teammates are doing you'll be in a decent mindset to do well yourself.

Thanks for the advice. ^_^

From up until where I've seen (Gold 2), it's not that different. There are two focuses to playing ranked, climbing or getting better. If you're aiming to get better, just play your best champion and role as much as you can into as many matchups as you can. Try to drag games out to improve your chances for a comeback. If you want to climb, just focus on doing your best to win every game, you need to realize not all games are winnable and if you're getting dunked just play a new one.

If you get flamed just use /mute all. If your top laner goes 0-19, you lose, that's all there is to it, just move on and start a new one. Turn off all-chat because it's useless. Don't tilt.

Good luck mate.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Don't tilt? What's that? I'm not too keen on all lingo.

I usually do that in regular games. The whole "not letting it affect me from playing". My main issue is when teammates start to berate people.

Other than that it's like playing regular huh? I've always heard people are a lot more harsh in ranked.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

I have the opposite thing, actually. I find normals to be super toxic compared to ranked.

I have had insane luck with the new queue. Just communicate like crazy, and play like you mean it.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

The new queue seems very weird. Haven't given it a shot yet, but will definitely do so. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the matches I find most toxic are when things are going very bad, very quickly.

Tyrone Lannister1 votes

Heres my tips. Pick a champion you really enjoy playing and spam them non stop. The best thing about ranked is that you play with equally skilled opponents (or somewhat). Especially with the new champ select, you really only need to be decent with a handful of champs. Also, dont flame. Flaming is not fun and it doesn't solve anything.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

I rarely ever flame, and it seems everyone agrees with sticking to the champions you know and are decent with. So, thanks for the feedback!

PDE5 Inhibitors1 votes

Don't be the fuckhead that goes ADC Nid in ranked. Other than that, you aren't going to get flamed often.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

ADC nid? Rarely see that in normal games. xD

PDE5 Inhibitors1 votes

Yeah, well I seem to attract a special kind of stupid in my ranked matches.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Well, I just tried my first ranked. Lost, but it happens. Our Jg was blaming me for the loss (I was mid) when they were like 0/10. I was 1/5. RIP teamwork.

EDIT: Sorry, 2/6. I got a kill last minute as well as died. Lol.

Random Task1 votes

Just make sure you are comfortable with the positions you want and have multiple champs you can play with in those positions. But even then, have your primary-spam champions.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Seems to be the consensus from everyone on the champion front. Seems I'll be doing that then whenever I play. Might try a match here soon, test the waters. I appreciate the feedback!

Vecuu1 votes

Physically write down a list of 15 champions (3 for each role) and put it next to your monitor. Only play those champions to begin. The extreme version of this is to write 5-7 per role down and then slowly narrow it down to 3 per role as you test the pros and cons of each champion in Normals. You can't do 1 per role because you might banned/picked/nerfed/bugged and you can't just do 1-2 roles because NOBODY gets their #1 role 100% of the time. The focus on champion pools is incredibly important, and, if, for instance, a champion you like to play has like a 20% winrate in 10 games: STOP PLAYING THAT CHAMPION. It might sound harsh, but, even if you feel like your personal performance was adequate, the end results is what matters.

Gold wins games. Towers and farm are priority #1. Kills are nice in that they give you gold, but are naturally riskier than farming and SAFELY pushing.

If you go 0-3 in an afternoon, take the rest of the night off. Losing 60ish LP is terrible feeling, and you'll just go into the 4th game pressured to make it up. If you HAVE to play League, play a Normal or Aram or something refreshing, since, if you are listening at all, you should basically be playing the same handful of champions on repeat over and over again.

Positive attitude is super important. Never flame your teammates, and, one flames you, ignore them (literally, mute them). You'll be able to focus better instead of arguing or defending your self in chat.

Have fun!

Thank you for all that feedback! Definitely something worth keeping in mind. Thanks!

Unfortunately there are no game modes which are actually worthwhile to play as a solo any more. The last refuge solo players had is now gone with the introduction of Dynamic Queue.

My recommendation is do not play unless you are playing as 5. In any mode.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Eh, I do wish they would bring more gamemodes into league, or at least new maps. I was loving the Poro king and the All for One gamemodes. Too bad they're only limited time things.

It would be nice if they would offer those game modes as purchasable content in the shop wouldn't it?

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Not even purchasable. Just playable. There needs to be more fun gamemodes imo.

I figure if you could purchase the game mode that would unlock a special queue for it that is only accessible when the event is being hosted, or at any time for those who purchased the map mode. That way a lot of the "for fun" game modes could be played all year long for a small fee by the players who truly enjoy that map mode.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

I just think it should be like all other gamemodes, and just open to all for free. That's just my opinion.

I think it'd be better off as inexpensive purchased content. Its not like everyone plays it, so it gives both those who love those modes and Riot something to gain by opening opportunity to players to access that content for a small fee. If each mode was somewhere in the 400-500 RP range its pretty cheap and would appeal to a pretty wide audience.

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Perhaps. Personally, if it was made as RP I'd say more like 100-200 RP. That's my opinion. Still, free gamemodes would fit more to the league criteria of "F2P" style.

I just recently carried myself from silver 4 or 5 i don't remember which, to gold and i have a few tips for ranked.

  • do your best to avoid having yourself being tilted by verbal abuse. mute anyone who starts aiming their toxicity at you.

  • Unless the game is like 0/20 and you can't even come close to winning a team fight, don't surrender. I recently won one of my gold series matches because of this

  • Don't EVER think it's just your teammates' fault for losing. Think of it this way- it's your fault that you couldn't carry the game, and you need to get better so that you CAN do that. trust me, I've carried a lot of games where all lanes were feeding besides me and we won. Even if this mindset isn't completely true, just think of it that way. Because in Bronze - Gold (from my experience) this is true.

  • Don't flame your teammates. It will only make them play worse. Instead, give them advice to help them start doing better.

  • If you're tilted, take a break.

  • Lastly, please... make sure you have some decent experience in normal 5v5s... Playing with someone who has very little experience can ruin the game for yourself, as well as everyone else. This is mostly just something I hate when people do but it will also help you a lot in the long run. Climbing out of Bronze because you weren't prepared isn't the most fun thing.

There's probably more that I could think of but I just woke up so it's not going to happen. GL

Nikushimi Zero1 votes

Thanks for the feedback. I will probably practice more Rift in Normal rather than Ranked. I play mostly ARAM so my experience in Rift is lacking. I know the basics, but I don't know when to do something and when not to. In other words when to help gank, when to retreat, when to help, etc.

So I will definitely need more practice in the Rift before ranked. My first ranked match was a loss, but that was due to lack of teamwork really. So, RIP that.
