The Stealth Update Could Make Pink Wards Obsolete...
... and that's a good thing. Vision wards are currently in a weird spot where, at lower elos, they're heavily underused because nobody wants to sink gold into vision, and at higher elos they're also picked less often than they should be, especially later in the game, because players often have a full inventory.
For those who haven't yet seen the upcoming stealth changes during the Assassin Update, I recommend you check the thread here. Long story short, stealth is being split into two: short-duration, in-combat stealth will be renamed Invisibility, and will be impossible to reveal under any circumstances, and long-duration, out-of-combat stealth will be renamed Camouflage, and camouflaged units will be fully revealed by proximity to another champion, a la Evelynn, and partially revealed upon taking damage, producing a red trinket-like shimmer. True sight will only detect Camouflage after this change, meaning the only advantage pink wards will have against stealth champions if if you place them far enough away from you to reveal them in advance (assuming they're stealthed then).
Wards and traps are currently a mystery: they'll still be stealthed, but Riot hasn't yet specified whether they'll use Camouflage, or whether they'll keep their current invisibility. If they use Camouflage, anti-stealth items might end up even more obsolete, since anybody could clear them without true sight.
Personally, I'd be in favor of this, because everyone would be able to clear wards, and hopefully the proximity reveal radius would be short enough to force players to really look for wards and traps if they want to clear them. A League without pink wards and/or red trinket is a League where everyone gets to contribute to vision equally, using just standard wards: let's face it, Sightstone is not a fun item, even if it's mandatory on supports (in fact, its mandatory status makes it even less fun, along with its mediocre stats), and Riot's attempts to make the item more desirable or slot efficient have never quite worked out. Even though vision is extremely strong, playing the vision game often feels like a chore, and streamlining it as much as possible could help cut out a lot of the unnecessary complexity that's making players ignore it at different levels of mastery.
TL;DR: The stealth update is the perfect opportunity to cut the fat out of the vision game. True sight might very well become obsolete, which means no more red trinket or pink wards, which would mean no more Sightstone. This would everyone easily opt into the vision and counter-vision game equally, and would allow supports to build much more exciting items, as well as have more freedom in itemization options and ordering (no more mandatory Sightstone rush).
per game and honestly it's a huge waste because I'm the only one buying them but everyone will say they are the only ones buying them so it's a contradiction.
back in the day you can ward and play safe and the junglers need to sweep to get the gold and the player that places the ward has more time with vision.
