"Damage needs to be toned down"
Also players: "Omg why doesnt champion A do damage? I landed all my skills, and only took his health down by half, yet champion B landed 1 thing and chunked my health 25%!!!1!"
Champion B players: "Holy crap who tf plays champion A. Ranged, safe af, plays like a coward. Their poke does 50% of my hp, while my poke does only 25%. If I try to go all in, I have too little hp to win the fight because he keeps poking me. Fk ritos damage erhmagewd!!!!111!1!!"
Its really hard to identify genuinely problematic champions, when everyone screams the same thing. Like for example, ryze is a genuine problem. Heavy burst, massively safe, excellent waveclear, great map control, etc. Will this get listened to? With the adc screaming about how yasuo is broken, its hard to discern who needs finetuning.
Yes, champions have strengths (like how yorick can take down 2 turrets consecutively within 30 seconds, or how ashe can easily kite). Yes, some of these strengths are a bit toxic to fight (like Olaf's ult and his 'low on hp makes me horny uwu' status, or yasuo/irelia's dashs), but that doesn't help issues. The biggest issues are when a champion's strengths are completely overshadowed by a champion who doesnt share that strength.
Example. Teemo gets tons of hate. Understandable, really. However, his entire kit was literally designed to be an annoying, oppressive toplane bully. Thats his strength. Q: denies auto attacks. W: Mild movement speed buff, helps barely get out of range of enemy toplaners. E: Poison on auto, to help his harass more. R. Map pressure, to deny the jungler from ganking, and punishing his bully playstyle. However, beyond this, he's easily killed by anyone with a gapcloser, or anyone who can properly bait out blind. Thats the tradeoff.
Ryze. Designed to be a battlemage, who rewards high level mechanics with burst. Requires decisionmaking. However, ryze provides all of what teemo provides, and more. Granted, teemo's map presence is felt slightly more, yet ryze outskills in being a toplane bully than teemo does. Ryze is also more bursty, more safe, more deadly, etc. This needs toning. Riot saw that a buncha champions not designed to bully toplane were doing better jobs at bullying toplane champions.... than champions designed to bully toplaners, and as such, tried to alter the exp system and toplane influence. Its worked, but ever so mildly. Kinda like slapping a bandaid on a ruptured liver.
Can we understand that some champions will play to strengths, but fix the champions who can do other champion's jobs, but better? I'll be damned when a kassadin has better burst/dueling potential than a juggernaut.
