How Do You Think Trash Talking Is Going to Win You the Game?
Honestly, is it worthwhile to lose a game and LP just because you wanted a player to know how bad they are? And, really, most of the time the player isn't even bad, you're just an asshole. Everyone makes mistakes, and pointing out someone's mistakes isn't going to make them play better; a large majority of the time it'll make them play worse, and not only will it make them play worse, but it'll set you behind because you wasted time typing, and if they respond it'll waste their time, so on so forth. It's just a chain reaction of putting you and your team behind, and it's not necessary whatsoever.
Imagine this: The average person types 65 Words Per Minute (WPM), and a lot of gamers, like me, type about 100 WPM. To type, "You're a f***king scrub" it'd take 3.6 seconds, plus another 4 to get your hand to your keyboard and back to getting control of your mouse. In 7.6 seconds, you've missed 3 cs, which is 45g-103g depending on what minions die. In 7.6 seconds, the enemy could take at least half your tower late game. In 7.6 seconds, the enemy can start dragon with you still standing in place. The point is, a lot can happen in 7.6 seconds, especially in a game like League of Legends. Crowd Control abilities are short compared to other games, only being .5-2.5 seconds long, just because League of Legends is a fast paced high damage game. Look at World of Warcraft, for example: Crowd Control there is 4-8 seconds long, because lower relative damage output and higher health. 7.6 seconds in League of Legends is crucial. Not to mention that if they retaliate and you retaliate, it creates a never ending cycle and adds up. 1 message is half your tower, 2 messages is the whole tower. 1 message is 45g-103g, 2 messages is 90g-206g. 1 message is starting dragon, 2 messages is killing dragon. And the more you flame, the more both parties retaliate, the more it adds up.
You really shouldn't type at all unless you're typing things like, "top f" or, "drag 30s", etc. Sure, there may be times where you're available to type--you're dead, you're running to lane, you're waiting for gold for an item, whatever--but there's still the retaliation factor, and there's still the tilting factor. What you say can, and will, affect everyone else's game play (if you say something positive, it'll have a positive effect; if you say something negative, it'll have a negative effect), and everybody knows this, so why do you still do it? To flex your donger? To feel like a badass over the internet? Just because that person made a mistake? Newsflash, we're human. Everybody makes mistakes, and you have too. Everybody has bad games, and you have too. So why throw the game by typing instead of making up for the mistake by farming, pushing, warding, clearing wards, looking for picks, whatever will win the game? It honestly makes no sense that you'd rather make a person feel bad than win; that you'd rather lose your own elo just because you want someone to know they're bad (when they actually aren't).
I make this post because I'm both tired of throwing games because someone wants to flame instead of win, and trying to do what I can to clean up a little bit of the League of Legends community. It's frustrating when you have a lead and one person makes a mistake, then someone decides to waste their time typing and ends up losing the entire game. If you absolutely have to flame, like you have daddy issues or anger management or something, do it in post game chat. Save whatever you have to say for after the game. That way you don't waste time in game and don't tilt your team.
That's just my 2
though.
