Thoughts about Shen Nerfs on PBE

4/4 PBE Update: New Champions Xayah and Rakan, Conqueror Karma, Cosmic Blade Master Yi, and more!

When I saw the new Shen nerfs, I wasn't incredibly depressed by it. I just thought that last hitting under turret will be much harder. Now I gave it some indepth thoughts, and I just want to share them, hopefully some shen mains or rioters can give me some feedback?

1.) Q change - The new q will do around 20 + (12) damage to minions per hit in the early levels, while Rito did say that they plan to draw power away from Shen's pre-tiamat/bami's pushing power, I feel like Shen's split push pressure will be ridiculously low.

Maybe we can make the base damage of his q charges be consumed by tower? This way he doesn't get virtually ignored top when he's at tower for a full minute watching a cannon minion doing more damage than him, and it won't cripple your energy pool for trying to use q to proc passive and tank wave near enemy tower.

2.) E change - Sounds nice, dunno how it will effect a large team fight though, since a larger hit box may transition to easier AoE combos.

3.) Ult changes - The shield strength decrease at full health is much needed, having a deadman's plate Rengar jumping in with the equivalent of 3.5k hp one shotting your adc and putting a 5k hp 300 mr frontline right next to your mage... mmmmmm

The cooldown and lower health scaling shield nerfs though, either the maximum shield gauge should go up or the cooldown nerf should be removed. Here's my reasoning:

  • Clutching a save is nice, but +~120 bonus shield simply doesn't do the trick when a carry is at 40% health.
  • A failed save transitions to a cooldown punishment. Shen doesn't get partial refund if his target dies during his channel and he shouldn't. But the new change, especially level 1-2 ult, absolutely crushes him for it.
  • A few caster mentioned it in pro games also, Shen's early ults is important to get something out of it, while I don't dislike risk-reward. This one is scaled too lopsided.

That concludes my thoughts, hope to see some feed back!

As someone who loves playing Shen and trying to get those final two S or S+'s, I'm ok with his dash and ult.....but the Q......I actually do use him as splitpushing similiar to the way LCS does. It's actually won me quite a few games down in silver. Not sure I like that.
