@Meddler: Can we get a champion icon on wards to indicate ownership?

Deep Terror Nami··124 votes·4,698 views

You know how you have to click a ward then mouse over the buff on it to see whose it is (unless you're familiar with the ward skin they're using)? How about add the champion icon there so you can tell instantly without reading the tooltip? Won't help during One-for-All, but otherwise I think it'd be really helpful for quality-of-life :3

Why you need to know who dropped that ward? Just curious.

DrCyanide6 votes

If I have vision of a ward being placed, but don't have vision of who placed it, I can learn a decent amount from knowing who placed it.

For example, if I'm in one of the mid lane bushes on the river, and the ward dropped on me is from my enemy laner, then I know my surprise failed and I should just go back to lane. If it's from the enemy jungler or top laner, then I know that things are no longer a 1-on-1, and I should head back to my tower.

Similarly if you see a ward plopped down in your jungle, there's a bit of a difference if that ward is being placed by the Support as they roam or the Enemy Jungler as they counter jungle. You might go offensive on one but defensive on the other.

The information is already in the game, it's just a matter of making it quicker to access.

You can already see who placed the ward, btw (just look at the first image. The Source: text is standard, as I only added the little champion image).

It's because it would be quicker.

Do you understand what a quality of life change is? There is no need for you to try and insult me. What did I ever do to you?

It's perfectly fine that you don't understand why some would benefit from this change.

What's not fine is your attempts to derail the thread and insult the people that do like it. Quit posting on this thread and harassing people.

Yes, there are larger issues, MANY of them, but most of them would takes weeks/months of programming with a team of people in order to fix, adding a summoner icon as a buff to wards to see who dropped it could take less than a day with a single programmer.

And as to what it adds, a LOT. If I can look at a ward someone drops and tell who dropped it, then i can tell exactly how long it will last, how many charges that person has left, and how long until i can tell my jungler to gank because the ward just died.

Right now you have to tell who placed it in a split second, usually meaning you're tearing your attention away from your laner, trying to focus on who placed the ward by hoping you can hover your mouse over the right spot before it goes invisible, making it easy for you to get attacked.

While that guy is a total dickwad I agree that there is a lot of larger issues in the community currently. I just don't agree with the way he brought it up.

Sometimes it only takes them 5 minutes to implement a new idea.

just relax and make some more water bubbles and tsunamis

Would this apply to only ally wards, or if I find an enemy pink ward, or use an red ward finder thing (Forgot the name), could I find out who on their side placed it? Would be kind of useful if you see a ward appear as your taking dragon for example, to know who is trying to steal.

DrCyanide9 votes

There's a concept of low hanging fruit in programming. If I can make 10 changes to the game that take an hour to implement each, but each improve the game, those should probably be worked on while also working on the 1 change that's going to take several months to get working.

that guy is such a douche. i downvote everything he says even if he's right just because he has the most annoying elitist attitude.

DrCyanide15 votes

No, it's actually very helpful.

The name is currently there, but you've got to click on the enemy wards, hover over the special place, and read the name before or disappears to know if that ward was placed by the enemy Mid Laner or the enemy Jungler.

Hmm seems like we've been doing just fine for years now....

Come off it, you admitted earlier you didn't even know the feature was there until a few minutes ago.

So because you can't read the bottom line we need pictures?

My point was on the speed of recognition. You've presently got to click on the eveny ward and hover over the ward status it has to see the name, all before it disappears. Heaven help you if you're against one of those premades who have nearly identical names and you don't catch all of it in time. This suggestion removes the hovering and gives a very fast way to identify who's ward it is.

Reading is essential, yes. Being able to click on something, hover over something else, getting the popup to show up, then read it before it disappears less than a second later isn't.

Even if they just put the players name as a status under the ward, it'd be an improvement over what they have now.

But why stop at just the players name? The point of having the players name is to recognize who placed the ward, so why object to having an image as well?

I feel like this would add unnecessary clutter to the screen. I already make my hud at nearly the smallest settings so I can see more of the map and click things without error. Would only like this if it could be toggled on or off.

Hoodwink1 votes

Only for the ally team, though.

It would be a bit too good if the enemy team knew who was placing wards, especially if it was from the Fog of War.

DrCyanide4 votes

... you already can on enemy wards, provided you're fast enough.

Joe Dredd1 votes

theres no point

Zhire1 votes

Oh of course there is a point. In fact there are MANY points. You leave that cute penguin ward for your bot lane as a jungler. And later they know who to thank when they avoid being ganked! This ultimately leads to a conversation of something like this: Jinx : Thanks for the ward Rammus! :D Rammus : Ok Soraka : Yeah dude that was close, would've never made it if it weren't for you! Rammus : Ok

CLEARLY, the example above show that teammates can bond harder than ever just because they knew who warded! This leads to a better mind set when playing and also a friendly environment where toxic behavior is less likely to happen! Overall, this will improve the League of Legends experience for everyone! Penguin wards for everyone :DD
