Grievous Wounds Early Item For Mages

As it stands right now, there is no cheap-buy grievous wounds item for mages, while something of the sort exists for both tanks and AD champions through item 3123 and item 3076, both of which cost around 1k gold, and both of those build into a better item that applies the debuff.

There is currently an item that would perfectly fill that role for casters: oblivion orb. While it is more expensive than its counterparts by a fair amount (500+ gold). If it is felt to be too overpowered, riot could even potentially remove the magic pen from orb. In theory, ignite is currently filling this void, but it has two drawbacks: its long cooldown that means it lacks the constant application and reduction of sustain that an item does, and it takes up a summoner slot. The latter of these is especially important if riot is serious about making mage junglers a thing, as the jungler would be relatively unlike to be taking ignite, as they have to take smite. In addition, ignite can also be brought by anyone, which while not necessarily a drawback does slightly nullify the argument that its the mage equivalent of item 3123 and item 3076.

I would rather make the other items more expensive to be honest.

Like giving bramble and avarice other stats/bonuses and moving the GW to the completed item.

I both agree and disagree.... as said previously, increasing the cost to the other two could be helpful..... but heres the thing.

Those two items are pretty much the only things standing in the way of regen tanks and soraka from being WAY too hefty in early game.

Mages after an early kill or two can nearly 1 combo someone to death. If they get behind, normally they can poke from a distance....

the other two items are more for the ADC (if they are vs a Soraka or something and choose to get it)... and top laners. Not many other lanes buy ANYTHING with grevious wounds for the grevious wounds due to Ignite being way better (the cooldown seems long yes, but at the same time it is generally up for every fight early and mid game unless one person gets way ahead).

So in short.... honestly i think Grevious Wounds is actually about right atm. Maybe a few tweaks to gold, but ehh.... if it goes too far then things could easily spiral out of control easily. I think more mages players rather have Oblivion Orb a bit cheaper and keep the flat magic pen over the GW any day.
