Morgana and Kayle Lore Changes theory

As I was doing several of the readings for the other post I recently made regarding lore changes, I came across several points that made me think about potential for future characters. As I was reading them more, however, the realization dawned on me that it's very possible that the characters already exist in game and are being planned for rework: Kayle and Morgana. Kayle is currently listed as a tier one champion , and Reav3 even said that if Kayle was reworked, Morgana would be as well. In addition, there are numerous reasons to believe that they'll be released following the nunu rework, ranging from files for the both of them being found in the same area as Nunu and Akali (I can't remember the specific technical details of this) to there being two rework slots left open for the year, which the pair could fill perfectly. They also have some of the most out of date lore in all of League, as little has been changed for them since League's inception.

But should there be a rework for them, we are left with the question of where there lore will take them. And I believe Riot has already told us, just in side comments in a recent story and backstory and the current lore blurbs

In Varus' story and backstory, there are two figures of import who are referenced. The first, mentioned in his backstory, is a "golden-armored warrior queen." While at first this seems like there is likely very little connection between this and Kayle besides the female clad in golden armor, when tied with the hints at Morgana, it becomes more likely.

The second major figure, who I believe to be Morgana, comes from Varus' color story, and is the female darkin mentioned in the final line of the story. This reference to a female darkin at first sounds minor and a hint at a new champion down the road, but when read alongside Morgana's lore blurb, it opens up some possibilties. It first describes her as "a potent mistress of suffering and the black arts," which is akin to what drew the darkin to Runeterra: the "wild magic" used by the inhabitants of Runeterra. She is also described as being "ripped from her kind during an ancient conflict that broke her soul," which could very well refer to the very same conflict with the darkin that resulted in the darkin being trapped within weapons and hidden away. She is also described as a "cruel tormentor," a description also given to Varus as he "loved to torment his foes with arrows." Morgana is finally said to be "driven by vindictive obesssion" and is "[lying] in wait," helping further the idea that she was a darkin who was trapped away and is vengeful for said trapping. If you tie that back to the "golden-armored warrior queen," it helps connect to Kayle, who is the object of Morgana's vengeance.

While much of this seems like I may be grasping at straws (and I will admit that this is a train of thought that occurred to me late at night and I've just run with it), there are some interesting possibilities to be seen. Riot has shown that when they rework a champion, they tend to prefer to try and keep many of the core aspects of the character. While it is, admittedly, unlikely that we'll see them not be sisters, if they were to be anything else, this would keep the classic revenge story tone that morgana had, as well as a potential rivalry between the two. It also keeps some of the themes regarding them being from another world, a common thread between both the original story of kayle and morgana and that of the darkin.

No matter what direction riot takes the lore, it'll be fascinating to see what becomes of these two champions given the strange nature of their current lore and how little it fits with the modern narrative direction.

I'd love to hear any thoughts and opinions regarding my theories. I expect many people will find them unlikely, I just felt that this train of thought needed to be put into words and felt this was the best place to do it, as it could spark interesting discussion.

This theory isn't new, about Kayle being that golden queen. However, we can't really use much of the current lore when trying to ascertain what the new lore will be, as it will changed (things like Morgana being a tormentor, and "ripped from her kind," which refers to Morgana and Kayle being space angels in the old lore).

However, I posted this theory of mine many months ago, as to what I think is their relationship to the Darkin War. In short, they're both sisters, trying to end the war in their way. Kayle is the rigid general queen leading the battles, and Morgana is the one who uses her magics to devise the method to trap the Darkin in weapons and thus utilize their power against the other Darkin. Morgana in theory could even use a prototype Darkin weapon she created. However, what Morgana couldn't account for is the flaw in her plan - the Darkin can overthrow the hosts. Morgana, being a person of great power, can resist, but the basic soldiers in the army cannot, and thus her weapons would cause the Darkin within to slaughter Kayle's ranks and cause significant damage to Kayle's drive against the Darkin. This reckless magic would be enough to have Kayle disown and cast out Morgana, and cause the divide between them. This theory of mine fits all themes involved (Darkin, siblings, order vs chaos), and still keeps the sisters core to who they are.

While I think it is likely that Kayle&Morgana will be connected to the darkin(I mean there has to be a reason why the darkin appearantly went extinct, even though there is nothing that indicates that humans ever traveled to their homeworld),I really doubt that Morgana will be retconned into a darkin,as that would either mean that darkin are transformed angels or Kayle and Morgana wouldn't be sisters anymore.

Though I could see Morgana as someone who sympathized with the darkins.

I'm not sure about Kayle being the "warrior queen" either. The queen is described as "flame haired" in the "Dark Kin"-story,implying that she is a redhead, which kinda sounds like an odd detail to include given that the VGU on Kayle was either not in the works or still in the very early stages and something like her hair color could have easily changed later on. Not to mention that the lore says that the queen used the darkin bow,so she was likely an archer herself.

Not gonna lie, I'm not very much of a fan of the "Morgana is a darkin" theory. Part of the thing that makes Kayle and Morgana so interesting is not only their being sisters, it is that they are two equal yet opposing forces. Order and Chaos. Bound and Free. By making Morgana a darkin, that would make the dividing lines between them not as strong by the addition of 3-4 more characters on the same level into the mix.

As soon as Varus got updated, I established my lore canon as

Kayle got her powers from the darkin Morgana, in an extremely heated inner conflict Kayle managed to separate Morgana from part of her powers and Kayle's body

Kayle achieved a less powerful ascended form that gave her wings like the darkin Morgana, and augmented her already strong light powers (think SA Kayn with augmented shadow powers), she lost part of her humanity, emotions and so, becoming a cold ruler with hair made of fire, that favours order before anything or anyone.

Morgana lost half of her powers, and took part of Kayle's humanity, using those negative emotions she harbored with that humanity and the magic learnt while fused with Kayle to create an even deadlier and darker form of darkin magic, supplying her loss

Both remain conected as hybrids of Darkin and Human, at least until Morgana can finally get to Kayle and take over her body, fullfiling her vengeance and creating a perfect angel of darkness, or Kayle can finish her off and absorb the remaining darkin energy to achieve almost divine powers.

Its probably wrong, and Riot might go any other route, but i just like this one the most, and one of them being darkin while the other human has more potential for interactions and lore, or so I think

I'm hoping if riot lumps them in with anyone its the darkin, this was my theory a while back https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/xu6ZE94W-kayle-and-morgana-are-the-remaining-darkin

basically it has to do with the wells based on that youtube theory and also kayle is actually a darkin in disguise as the queen while also morganas sister who is also a darkin and kayle had to seemingly betray her kind in order to save them for the future

Pretty sure when the whole Targon changes came down, we were told that they wouldn't move Kayle or Morg away from the Extra-Dimensional Angels bit.

Finally someone with the same train of thought as I. Been saying this for years, but have always been dismissed!
