In Defense of the New Jungle and the Pricing
I know I'm just a Silver (b2 now because resets ;-;) but hear me out. I jungled a bit in seasons 3 & 4, but never mained it. However, when season 5 jg came out and I was all like "OOOOOOOOO Diversity!" I was amazed by the ability to smite champs, stun monsters, and deal tons of damage if you played your cards right! However, the one thing that threw me for a loop was the increased damage by the neutral monsters. I'll admit I died to the raptors my first game because I thought they where gonna be an easy kill. While this was a bane, I see that the s5 jungle is going to need different champions then the s4 jg to be successful. I personally see the need for a jg with good sustain (maybe it's just my ello) I even gave old Olaf another shot in the jg (with good sustain and early duel potential I mean why not!)
Ultimately we need to understand that League will evolve and it's the jg's turn. We as a community need to embrace the change and use it to our advantage. Pick someone besides who you use to get lvl 2 gank kills with (cough lee sin cough cough) and give them a try. IMO the Jg had been the same since I joined in Season 3 (and I bet it was the same beck in season 1 too) and I like where Riot is going with this.
Now on to the new Jg item, everyone is getting concerned that it costs an extra 100 gold to buy the primary upgrade. But if you think about it, this is where the JG gets a hefty power spike. It in essence is adding a new summoners spell that can be offensive or defensive, this can create a bit of a problem with the early game power houses like Vi. This price increase is a needed ghost nerf for the stronger early game jg. If the price increase is a concern for others who don't think they can afford it 1st back, 100 gold isn't going to break the bank. When I would jg before 4.2 I could manage two runs of the jg and a few ganks before basing and have enough for boots, the smite upgrade, and a few other situational, and now I can still afford all these items I just need to hit up one or two more camps before I base.
What can you take out of this? I believe that the new jg is on point with leagues ideals, being that it is an easy game to learn but hard to master! If you don't want to take the time to master it, try out a new lane. And to those of you who are laners, jg is a bunch of fun now so give it another try!
Tl,DR, Jg has changed, and it's for the better! It's gonna require more practice to get better at it, but it now has a higher pay off. And everyone (jg mains or not) should give this new role a try because it is so much more fun then it use to be!
