Who Mods the Mods

I've got a question that I honestly don't understand, so please don't shut down this thread for "disrespecting or insulting rioters/mods." Who the heck is in charge of moderating the moderators? Is there some sort of hierarchy that keeps mods from doing what ever they like? I'm asking because I've noticed some of the mods are getting heat for shutting down posts or threads for no apparent reason. Also, it seems that the users don't have any say, and are simply left to the mercy of the all powerful moderators. Just asking, let me know if you have any info.

Who the heck is in charge of moderating the moderators?

The Moderators themselves are monitored by the Heralds.

Heralds are less common and as far as I know there are only 5 - Ulanopo, The Djinn, Evangele, KnightsKemplar, and Attysu The Poro. Generally speaking Heralds seem to work on a lot of behind-the-scenes related content like creating subboard-specific rulesets and addressing complaints about staff members or the Boards themselves, they usually don't deal with simple tasks like post removals (or atleast not at the rate at which regular Moderators do.)

And I believe the Boards Moderation Team (including Heralds, Moderators, Specialists, etc.) are all subject to a general ruleset given to them by Riot, although they're not always under severe moderation from them as the two teams (Riot + BMT) are separate entities. And of course I could be wrong on this point, in which case I'd like a member of staff to come in here and lay the smackdown on me

Edit: If you want a good explanation of the roles and their duties, check this link:

I feel that's a little unfair. We have a reason for each and every removal. The two main reasons we remove content are lack of basic respect and conversations we don't permit on the Boards.

If you have an example of something you think should not have been removed, you are more than welcome to post it here and we'll do our best to explain.

Simply put there is no public oversight for moderators. They are not at the mercy of the community. On the contrary, the community is at their mercy and it makes them extremely susceptible to corruption. It's not like they're normal plebs like you or I. They see themselves as a better breed of people. Sort of like the ubermensch if you will.

They are self-policed. As we all know throughout history and present day events, that never ends up going wrong.

Moderators answer to heralds. Heralds answer to other heralds.

Riot plays very very little role. Technically if a herald were to do something over the top Riot has the ability to intervene. But riot doesn’t play an active role. And there really isn’t any way to talk with Riot about the heralds,

So as long as the heralds aren’t so openly bad that they draw the attention of Riot themselves, then alone are responsible for deciding what the community wants or if they made a mistake.

They sometimes try to spin it that there is Riot Oversight. Which while technically true as I mentioned Riot is very rarely involved and there is no way to talk to Riot yourself. Hell I’ve been waiting for well over two months now for Riot to respond to a ticket about moderators.

downvotes > mods >= heralds (they are kind of doing e/o's taks, but heralds are said to be a bit more important) > Keyru (boss) > rito superiors, mention her name in your ticket but DON't spam her unless you are sure one is unfair!!

ofc, everyone kneels before the mass downvote bot..

Check the moderation discord as well, you can ask for context or a topic to be disced among the team etc :p

(By the way, if any other Moderator or a Herald or Rioter sees any errors with what I have posted, please do feel free to issue corrections.)
