Why do we still take bonus damage from Zoe's E after cleansing or waking up...

If you cleanse that long ass CC (that can prep for a oneshot) you can still take bonus damage from it. I believe with tenacity you can reduce the duration of sleep but after you wake up, you can still take bonus damage. I am pretty sure it's because Zoe's E is programmed so that it can amplify damage for a fixed duration and not based on how long the sleep lasts.

Yeah, that's messed up, for sure.

I'm still not a fan of the distance it gains through walls or how much she's rewarded for missing it, either.

Because Cleanse removes CC not the amplified damage.

cleanse only removes CC, it doesn't remove any of the damage effects from any spells. It used to sometimes remove the damage on some spells and not others so Riot just streamlined every spell still does its damage.

Why does it have to be true damage.

I mean that actually makes sense from a gameplay sense though. Cleanse and the like are supposed to reduce the duration of crowd control, but a damage amp isn't crowd control. It's like cleansing the slow from Fizz's ult, the fish remains attached and you're still going to be hit by that shark.
