Homeguard should not be disable when minions attack u as it just takes one minion to aggro on u which will stop homeguard thus slowing u down to get to ur turret in distress. The only way to be consider in combat with homeguard is to be damaged by a enemy champion and damaging an enemy unit yourself. item 3280

I don't know how you would be getting hit by minions if you're going to save a tower. If there are enough minions pushing on your I'm assuming Nexus turrets to hit you I think those should be more of a priority then any outer turret should be.
