i tried this build on Yi today and got 670 AD, 70 cs%, 1.64 Attack speed.

570 AD without barron buff, 670 with barron buff. , lastly I sold my greavers and got .

I was just trolling around but my damage was like 570 without the baron buff. my critical strike was 70%, I think I was dealing around 1600 damage per basic hit 70% of the time. My Q was insane. Is this the answer to countering a team of squishies?

Crit Yi is how he used to be built in Season 4, before the jungle item rework. It's what he was initially balanced around.

That build sucks against tanks with thornmail though.

Yep, and I wouldnt use it against a tank team. I just tried it out in a bot game for funsies but in the case the enemy team gets really squishy people, I would probably try this. I have an account pre level 30, (probs like level 17) and I tried this on him alot back then. Back then though yis base damage at level 18 was alot lower. I dont think Ive ever had a base damage of 670 on a champion, or even 500 let alone.

But I think its super effective against anyone 1/1

That's just a duelist build. It's good for 1v1 & picks, but would have more of a trouble with multiple targets and teamfights (unless fed ...then any somewhat decent build "works").

Not sure on the essence reaver, though. It does provide decent dmg and CDR, but you're paying a lot of gold for the mana refund that Yi doesn't really need. It's not that gold efficient for him...
