Let's be honest, the real winners of class updates are ALWAYS the generalist(s)
None of the below champions are explicitly OP or broken or anything. Simply those that objectively emerged as the most dominant of their respective class updates.
- was not balanced around a stupid gimmick like Villain or dragon ghost or spires. Is perfectly useful without Noxian Might and even then applying it is simple, straightforward, and allows him to pretty much steamroll most top lane matchups. Has utility in E, passive shred, and true damage on ult; is a great teamfighter. His sustain is not gated behind being out of combat, and he has high base stats. Arguably benefitted the most from the Juggernaut items and is pretty much the posterboy of the Juggernauts. Has been nerfed several times but has pretty much always been THE top lane pick if you want an easy lane against x melee champion.
- Safe, with utility and huge damage. Has never truly been weak since the ADC update and always meta because of little to no losing matchups in lane. Synergizes with pretty much any support. Long range, has an escape, both soft and hard CC, is a lane bully that scales well into late and has S-tier siege and poke. Works well as a crit ADC and survived as an A-tier pick through the armor pen meta because of her safety and lack of a glaring weakness, unlike many other ADCs.
- Safe, with utility and huge damage. Was pretty much impossible to itemize against and had a cheap and straightforward laning phase that transitioned into one of the most oppressive mid games of all time. Great scalings, top tier poke. shred, and a flexible build path - even some hard CC thrown in too. Even when he was nerfed out of bot wormed his way into the mid lane for a stretch. Honorable mentions to **Quinn **and **Graves **who essentially had the same thing happen to them but migrated to top and jungle, respectively.
- RIP Malz now but there was just no reason not to pick him back in the day. Passive made him safe as hell and even if he was 0/12 a good ult would win the game. Had waveclear, spells were cheap, and his voidlings let him solo objectives. Aside from ADC there was simply no role he couldn't play effectively. Had near guaranteed kill pressure at level 6 onward against most matchups. Pushed like a madman and was safe from most ganks as well. Extremely high damage and ultimate's usefulness was, and still is, undeniable.
- Overlap with Malz; there were just very few reasons not to pick Vlad. HUGE burst on a champion that is already (in)famous for sustained magic damage. Extremely safe and basically impossible to force out of lane. Was rewarded for building tank in the mid lane, could 1v2 ganks, and killing him was a wasted effort. Only real weakness was lack of CC that was easily covered up by old Rylais, which helped not only him but also Malz. Honorable mention to **Swain **as well.
- Mobile, absurdly safe, with effective CC and some of the highest burst League has ever seen. Roamed well, had top-notch waveclear, nothing was done to fix the inherent problems of chain. Had virtually no losing matchups do to her safety, combo depth, waveclear, and basically guaranteed killing power in the early levels. Has since been nerfed to the ground repeatedly and STILL sees play simply because of how powerful her kit is and how much it offers.
- Resourceless, with on-hand in combat mobility and skill enhancement system. Overloaded kit with CC, CC immunity, high sustained damage AND burst, invade power, good ganks, and sustain. Gained free stats from simply fulfilling the goals of the role. Bases and sustained damage so high that could be taken top lane and easily outrade most matchups and be built bruiser - free crit on ult made simply stacking AD the optimal build for oneshots.
Not all of the champions on this list were generalists before their respective updates, but were reworked into ones. What weaknesses they had (if any), they were given tools to circumvent them. Were often introduced with new mechanics that either gave lots of power passively or were easy to apply and gain without complex minigames or gimmicks to use as a crutch. Possess(ed) damage alongside utility and safety that allowed them to steamrolll when ahead and remain relatively useful when behind. Often had true/% damage or ways to shred resistances.
I predict that Zac will be the only 'success' of the update and will be very strong and picked in the LCS for his sheer usefulness. Sustain, damage (and lots of it in an AoE), three displacements (again, all AoE), mobility, and amazing synergy with new items and old. Can easily invade, gank, and transition into teamfights and has few glaring weaknesses outside of %health damage and proper warding, which counters pretty much every tank jungler in the first place. Barring extensive change to Sejuani and Maokai I think that only Zac will come out of the Tank Update dominant by virtue of being a generalist.

blows the other two out of the water. Zac's CC got trashed for his ult, and his damage isn't good either. maokai's ult is too slow to be useful as anything other than follow-up
