Zac's Passive
Hi! Thanks for taking time to look at my discussion :). I'm here to talk about Zac, more specifically his passive. I bring you the exact text from the wiki:
ZAC'S PASSIVE Each time Zac uses an ability on enemies, he sheds a chunk of himself to a nearby location. Zac can move over these chunks to reabsorb them, regaining 4% of his maximum health. Enemies may move over these chunks to destroy them. Upon taking fatal damage, Zac splits into 4 Bloblets that attempt to recombine. Each Bloblet has 12% of Zac's maximum health, and 50% of his armor and magic resistance. If any of these Bloblets remain after 8 seconds, Zac will revive with 10-50% health depending on the health of the surviving chunks.
ANALYSIS OF THE PASSIVES The first part of his passive is great, nothing wrong with it. However, the second part of the passive, isn't so great, yet it's one of his most recognizable traits. TLDR, He splits into 4 little blobs, and they all have to crawl together to get Zac back up. Now, if this blobs make it together without a scratch, he get's 50% of his health back. Sounds good right? There's a downside though. A huge downside. Zac takes about 10 seconds for his blobs to regroup, which is plenty of time for your enemy to have a go at you.
Another fun fact. They are treated as minions, so like Annie's Tibbers, but they can't be controlled, and have a set path. Like other minions that champions can summon, like Zyra's plants, Heimer's turrets, tibbers, Yorick's ghouls, ect, they have a higher priority to normal minions under towers, meaning they get shot at before normal minions, unless a champion does damage to another champion while in range of turret.
Like all other minions, they can be smited or consumed (Nunu). This can result in Zac loosing a blob or maybe two extremely quickly. When you take all this information about Zac's passive and compare it to the two other revive passives in the game, Aatrox and Anivia, there are some major advantages to the other two champions passives. We're going to be focusing more on Aatrox, as while both have different playstyles, they both are usually played in the same roles, Top, and jungle
ZAC AND AATROX: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? Zac's jungle style is more gank oriented, with his high CC, and elastic slingshot, which, IMO, is one of the best initiations in the game. While Aatrox's style is more farm oriented, allowing him to get gold and build up his bloodwell, which is his passive. Here's the text from the wiki on it:
AATROX'S PASSIVE Aatrox passively increases his attack speed by 0.6 / 0.7 / 0.8 / 0.9 / 1 / 1.1% for every 2% in the Blood Well. Upon taking fatal damage, Blood Well activates and places Aatrox in stasis for up to 3 seconds. Over the stasis duration the Blood Well is emptied and Aatrox restores health equal to its contents plus 10.5 + (15.75 × Aatrox's level). Aatrox can cancel the stasis early after 1 second by moving, but this also ends the health regeneration.
AATROX: HOW IS HE LIKE ZAC, AND WHAT DO HIS ABILITIES DO? So basically, Aatrox uses health for his abilities, like Zac, however, while Zac uses his Passive to gain health back by picking up the piles of goo he throws off every time he hits something with an ability, Aatrox gets his health back with lifesteal. Lots of lifesteal. Lifesteal out the f*cking wazoo.
For all of you who don't know, Aatrox's W has two modes. He can either make it so every third strike, he get's a good chunk of health back, an extremely good chunk mind you, or, every third strike, he looses some health, but does bonus damage to you. It also keeps the stacks from the previous form. Say you have 3 and you're about to set it off with bonus damage, but you don't want to because you're low. No problem, quickly switch to the other form, and get your health back. It's much more reliable than Zac's goo piles, which fly off in any direction. And the more you use abilities that cost health, the more your bloodwell will fill up, and the more full your bloodwell is, the more health you get back.
Fun fact: When Aatrox enters his revive state, he is untargetable. He can't be hit by anything, but he can't anything either. It also takes about 5 seconds for Aatrox to go through his passive.
SIMILARITIES/DIFFERENCES OF THE PASSIVES So now, let's start comparing some of the basic things about the passives, their revive portions to be specific.
Cooldowns:
: 300 secs
: 225 secs
Time it takes for passive to go through:
: 10 Secs
: 5 Secs
Targetable?:
: Yes
: No
Impacted by Spirit Visage?:
: Yes
: Yes
** ANALYSIS** And there you go. Notice anything? It's that Aatrox has an extreme advantage over Zac passive wise. While both champions may have advantages over each other in certain categories, I would consider them both about even picks for jungling, depending on team composition of course, if it weren't for Zac's passive. It just has too many downsides to it, for it to contest Aatrox's passive, or even Anivia's passive.
CONCLUSION In conclusion, I believe while Zac is fine in the department of his abilities, something needs to be done about the revive portion of his passive. What do you think? Please, post your arguments, ideas, comments, concerns below. I really hope we can find something to do about him.
