"Honor for all"

When was the last time you heard this phrase? Just recently I was in a game, when I had somebody say it, and I then realized that I hear this phrase a lot less than I used to. I hope to strike up a discussion about honor, and what can be done to improve it. Post your thoughts here.

Without any tangible rewards attached to honor, a lot of players seem to just ignore it now. Also, from my understanding, the icons are rewarded not for flat numbers, but for being in the top x% of honored players on the server. Last I heard, players in bot games are apparently much more statistically likely to reward honor, so most of the crests don't go to people who are primarily playing PvP SR.

Honor was a cool idea, but I think it's hard to make people care about it. Serious rewards would go a long way, but they would also encourage honor trading (you give me x, I'll give you z), which kind of defeats the purpose of honor in the first place.

I don't play DotA, but from my understanding, you can end up in some kind of "dishonor hole" (dunno what it's actually called)... if you get reported too many times, you start primarily getting matched with other jerks. Maybe Riot could do the opposite--players who receive a lot of honor are more likely to be matched with other honorable players, at least in normals. This would make honor meaningful, without incentivizing honor trading (you want to only honor players that you would actually like to play with in the future).

honor doesnt do anything so there is no point.

the only thing riot can do is make it so if u get 50 honors in like 3 days, then you gain an extra 500 ip. or if u get 1000 honor in 1 month then u get a special icon.

but other than that nothing.

I only honor those who I feel were truly honorable. Say I had a good game against the other team and only honored 2 of them. The reason being that those 2 were friendly and sportsmanlike, whereas the other 3 were either toxic or didn't say anything at all. I just don't honor people like that.

The honor system fell apart fast for a few reasons.

  1. Easily abused system. The same people honor one another over and over
  2. Novelty of the system fell off because there was no follow up from Riot
  3. No rewards.

Honestly I liked my ribbon and was able to achieve every single ribbon at one point or another. But not they are gone. Not from lack of being honor worthy but because no one really honors anymore unless u go like 30-0. The few people i do come across with ribbons dont strike me as anyone special who has them.

Riot has to fix the honor system, put in

  1. Realistic goals, achievable by players
  2. Unique rewards
  3. Follow up on the honor program so that it doesn't drop off like before

I received my first ribbon at level 11. It was the Golden ribbon. As I played, it became a green ribbon for teamwork, because someone else deserved that gold ribbon more I guess.

I am always glad to have that green ribbon upon my profile, I am all about teamwork. I sacrifice kills I could take the right people to keep our team strong. Teamwork isn't hard.

I hold those ribbons to be good because they are not easy to earn. much less keep.

I cant remember the last time I played with anyone who had a ribbon.

Put honor on a day-to-day update linked to your first win timer.

That way they can add tangible rewards to honor without risking toxicity on a game-to-game basis since you'll never really know who gave it or when you got it.

"Honor for all" When was the last time you heard this phrase?

Yesterday. Don't draw the pitchforks and like the torches, that was the first time I've heard that in six months.

I honestly cannot remember the last time said honors for all. People especially in normal and rank games barely use the function anyway. And vs ai which is what I've seen in the past is the only place people actually did that, but now those are filled with bots so that doesn't help.

But I will agree it would encourage abuse but if anything they should make it so that you can't honor people you personally queue up with.

I still have my Teamwork ribbon, and I very seldom see someone with a ribbon these days. But I still earn an average of 1 "teamwork" honor per game. The things is that some players give honor so few and far apart that others started doing the same thing because they felt "cheated" I guess, rendering honor gifts a very rare occurrence.
