As in, are you willing to live with the deep, systemic changes that would be required to Rift's fundamental functions in order for this to actually work?
Because League had a map like that. It was Dominion. Marksmen were totally optional there due to differences in gold/XP flow and how objectives were taken.
But no one played it.

Bot lane Darius, Bot lane Ziggs, Bot lane Morde, ect. That's not really what this topic is about, though.
Got a question for you. In games when you're running bottom lane Darius, since that's a thing you do often, how do things go when your team has a Marksmen that isn't bottom lane? Or at least a ranged AD source (Jayce, Gnar, ect) that isn't bottom lane? Better? Worse? About the same? Because that's more of what this topic is about than which classes gets pigeonholed into the Farmer lane position. That's certainly part of it, but hardly the whole picture.

Paroe2 votesMarksman will never be optional. EVER. There is no other class of champion who can take down objectives with the same speed and reliability as a marksman; However, to do their job (which is seige and objective taking) they do NOT need crit. At all.
Removing crit and buffing attack speed on zeal would go a long way towards balancing marksman.

I dont need to? Numbers wise theres 0 reason for crit to exist but marksman will ALWAYS be mandatory. Awhile ago one of my friends said "The meta isnt whats strongest, the meta is what deals with marksman the best". I find it to be VERY true.

Crit exists in part to ease a little bit of power off Marksmen primary objective taking strength. If all crit chance components were removed and replaced with raw AD, things would change, certainly. Though maybe not for the better. Towers would fall much faster, AD casters would get much stronger, DPS against champs would drop a bit, and Yasuo would cease to exist. Or, y'know, get a much needed remake.

That's what this topic is about, as it happens. The reason why Marksmen are ubiquitous is because of how the map works. It would take some pretty hefty changes to Rift's mechanics to alter that.
Variks the Loyal1 votesDifferent characters than Marksman can work bot lane. We've seen it this season, with Ziggs going there. Then there was Mordekaiser's rework, and bot is still a good place to take him if you play him.
The inclusion of Marksman in bot lane has always been due to one thing - they kill structures fast. These are things both Ziggs and Morde can do as well; Ziggs with his passive and Satchel Charge, and Morde with his dragon ghost and Q hits.
Both Kayle and Azir could fit the bot lane style as well if they didn't naturally push lanes.
It's only a matter of time until Riot releases a new champion, made for bot lane, that is good at killing towers without being a Marksman.

New map is a bit of hyperbole on my part. More along the lines of non-trivial changes to how objectives and (possibly) resource allocation work.
I mean, you COULD just crush Marksmen as a class to the point that there's no reason to pick them ever. But that would most likely result in things like AD Ahri and AD LeB instead, which doesn't really solve the problem.
