Banning champions your teammated highlighted to pick shouldn't be allowed

VasilisGreen··3 votes·647 views

Make it so that Players can't ban their teammates champions that were picked during Pick intent. Why is it even allowed?

You want to reduce toxicity? then make this happen, don't let people ban their teammates preffered picks.

You realize that people would abuse that right

VasilisGreen1 votes

How exactly? i believe you are talking about trollpicks i suppose

Calabok1 votes

thats what happens if you let them know what you're picking and in that lane. If they dont like your troll pick. Too bad

VasilisGreen1 votes

Zed ain't troll pick...

ExHentai1 votes

I see that you play Zed. Mad because someone banned away Zed? Nobody wants to see him on the enemy team (let alone their own team).

VasilisGreen1 votes

Lel, you wouldn't want a Zed in your team? why? too many bad zeds in NA?

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Zed (and many AD mid-laners) tend to ruin team compositions by providing nothing but physical damage in a role that traditionally provides magic damage and CC.

Personally, I'd much prefer to have an AP mage in mid-lane. They are far more useful. I wouldn't outright ban Zed for that (thought I'm in Plat so they tend to be half-competent), but I would be slightly annoyed.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

The problem can be mostly solved by having an AP top though...

That way the team still gets AP and CC. Since most AP tanks have CC.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

The problem is that doing so requires at least some communication.

I have had many mid-laners pick Zed or Yasuo (without prior warning) whenour team already has an AD top, AD jungle, ADC and a tank support.

If they do that, you can't adjust your picks to account for them at they just fuck your team composition.

Catastrop1 votes

No, some people don't like trash that can't provide any utility to the team.

You think I enjoy having a shittty Yasuo with 4 games on him and vs a Yasuo one trick that is cancer af with him?

VasilisGreen1 votes

ye, and what if that yasuo one trick is on your team? it's one less thing to worry about in ranked, you know that one of your lanes will win

There are plenty of reasons to ban someone your ally is hovering. For example, if my last pick ADC wants to pick Jinx it's far more likely someone on the other team is going to pick her first, so it's fairly reasonable to ban her because she's probably going to get sniped by the other team instead.

You know that champion swaps exist for a reason, right?

You know that champion swaps exist for a reason, right?

You know it's called soloq for a reason, right?

Chances are first pick won't have champ last pick is looking for or they don't care about swapping.

There is one small feature that is called team chat... And yeah, it's not used solely for flaming.

Sightless661 votes

I am under no obligation to pick his champion for him, particularly since I may not even have his champion, and I have no clue whether or not he has the champions I may want to play.

VasilisGreen1 votes

I didn't say you are. I said you could. Plus, if you are really competitive and care to win, you will do it, and many other things.

Sightless661 votes

Even saying I can is not always true. I do not often own their champions, I will not buy their champions, and they often do not own mine. Additionally, I have my own op stuff to pick. I value my Soraka pick way, way more than I value his Zed.

If I am competitive and want to win, I will ban Yasuo out if a trade is not guaranteed to work, instead of hoping our fifth pick gets it.

VasilisGreen1 votes

Look, that's why chat exists, to talk about it and see what works.

Sightless661 votes

Chatting with him isn't going to change the fact that I'll usually value my pick more than his. If I can get Soraka or Janna before the enemy, I'm going to do it. I'm not picking his stuff if I can get my stuff instead.

Besides, if I'm third pick (the earliest place I could have a ban), I'm not in a good position to actually pick his stuff for him anyway. I'm still going to be picking after 2-3 of their players. That's too many opportunities for the enemy to pick whatever OP bullshit that I don't want to play against. I'm perfectly happy making sure no one gets it.

And finally, you're assuming that I can get him to chat with me and actually effectively tell me which of my champions he has in a timely manner, which is a major assumption in and of itself. I have rarely been able to trade with someone without having to pull teeth asking which supports or AD carries they own.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

If your last-pick wanted to choose [OP champion], then you wouldn't be able to ban it.

However, it is extremely likely that the enemy team would be able to take it before they could.

VasilisGreen1 votes

Champion trading is a thing in Draft select... Have you ever tried it?

DrCyanide1 votes

OK, so let's go to the extreme example.

Champion X has a 75% win rate right now, due to a combination of buffs and bug fixes (maybe some new bugs too), no hot fix in sight. Nothing "trades" with that.

What's more likely is that you'll have people queue as "support", then blackmail their team into swapping them roles because they'll just hover the OP champ unless they do. It's a loss if the other team gets the champion and you don't swap roles, because your "support" will throw the game. That's a far worse experience than teammates occasionally banning what you want to play for no reason.

VasilisGreen1 votes

Why do i smell Yasuo in this comment?

DrCyanide1 votes

Because he's the most recent example of what can push a champion over the edge (although I don't think he got to 75% win rate). We see the same thing with Class Updates, Preseason, Mid Year Updates, etc. We encounter situations where we must ban champions several times a year. Those times are miserable enough, let's not make the situation worse by not being able to ban teammates champions.

An indicator that an ally has hovered a champion will be sufficient to warn those who would accidently ban an allies champion. Much beyond that will likely cause more problems than it solves though.

Aptest1 votes

lets get one thing straight. nobody likes to have yasuo in the game, who is not a yasuo player. nobody likes yasuo on their team. nobody likes yasuo on other team. nobody likes yasuo period.

and if yasuo got banned while your own team's yasuo OTP hovered it.... (gosh there are a lot of yasuo OTPs out there) ...nobody feels any remorse or pity towards the otp.

[slayer-jinx-wink]

VasilisGreen1 votes

I am not a yasuo otp, i do like yasuo but i don't play him that often because i find Zed more fun. And no, it wasn't a yasuo ban when i hovered it that got me triggered. Besides, Unless i am the one playing yasuo chances are i will ban him too because most of the "Yasuo otp" players can't even manage his E properly and i don't want that on my team.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

You mean you have to hope that:

  • Your team has first pick instead of the opponent
  • Your first-pick is willing to trade
  • Your first-pick owns the [OP champion]
  • The person who wants the [OP champion] has the champion(s) your first-pick wants to play

And, you have to coordinate this during a short time in champion select with complete strangers who may or may not have tabbed out during ban phase.

Yeah, good luck with that. I'll just ban it to prevent the enemy from getting it.

VasilisGreen1 votes

You don't have to ask the first pick, there are other higher picks. And besides, That's why chat exists, to talk about it... You don't have to be a douche and just ban the champion someone wants to play, and i never said anything about being last pick.... I was first pick i wanted my champion and when i asked for a specific ban, they banned my champion instead.

Elfador1 votes

then you'll have people pre-selecting champions they think they can counter instead of champions they intend to play. not a good idea

VasilisGreen1 votes

What do you mean by that.... Why would anyone not pick what they intent to play... The whole point of pick intent is to show what you want to play so that your team knows, and hopefully they don't ban it

Ðelofasht1 votes

When people purposefully ban my pick intent because they don't like the champ (I faced this a ton as a Yorick main), I took it as an opportunity to learn Urgot. I am still pretty bad with Urgot right now, only have it happen a few times. I think I have won only one game on him so far. . . morale of the story, do not ban your team's pick intent, ban it's counters.
