We shouldn't be looking at removing all of Azir's mobility
I've seen a lot of people who don't play Azir who want to turn him into a much more boring champion. I'm fine with making changes and reducing the distance he can dash, either through soldier ranges or by removing the second half of his dash, but I think however they rework Azir, an all in burst combo is key to his identity for players.
It's also not anything unprecedented or unfair. Ezreal has safety and range and can jump forward for high burst damage and he's a fair and fun adc. Taliyah has high sustained damage from range, and very high burst just on basic abilities, if she's willing to move up close to her enemies. Whatever form it takes, I think it's key that Azir be able to do burst damage, to have a way to earn kills in mid lane, etc.
I've also seen people suggesting removing damage from Azir's Q but I think that's exactly the opposite direction from what you should be taking personally. Instead, I think if you want to add counterplay to Azir's basic range damage, you should be looking at increasing the cooldown on Q- so that he can use Q to try to hit you for some poke, but that means if you move out of his soldier areas, he's vulnerable and cant attack you. After all, pretty key to control mage counterplay is a way to avoid standing in their shit.
They should also be looking at whether his ultimate should be the same peel tool it is today- i'd rather have his soldier dash than his wall tbh, and his ability to insec you from far away was part of what made him hard to balance.
But they could also just look at making his E dash range shorter by not giving it the second dash, and then making it easier to shotgun people with it and his ult- because currently without the second dash you just can't hit people with it, period. But if you could imagine Azir dashing towards you but not right on top of you, and hitting you with ult and Q for his burst.... the difference there is you can only use that combo for burst damage, you can't insec without the second dash.
TLDR though- there's nothing wrong with Azir having burst damage or a dash and they're key to his identity for players. It's just important that he feels fair to fight and has weaknesses along with strengths. I don't want to play Azir if he's basically Malzahar and no other Azir player wants that either.
