Tower Targeting

How does the tower target minions? Like from left to right or top to bottom or like closest or lowest hp?

Target does not switch until the target dies or leaves range. (Assuming no champion aggro) This explanation will only include lane minions.

Order from highest to lowest priority:

  1. Cannon minions
  2. Melee minions
  3. Caster minions
  4. Closest enemy target

In effect, when a wave pushes against the tower, the tower will often attack the first melee minion (no cannon minions in range yet).
By the time the first melee minion dies, the cannon minion, if there is one, will likely be in range. So the tower will attack the cannon minion second. Then it will go for the next two melee minions, and then the three caster minions.

In the case that a new wave enters the tower's range before the last caster minions are targeted, the new targets will be the melee minions of the new wave rather than the caster minions of the last wave. If this continues, you can potentially get a gigantic wave consisting mostly of just caster minions.

For specific minions, I'm not quite sure. It seems to be the closest minion within the subgroup first, but I've also seen it just go across in a line. I've never been able to predict that one well.
