LP gain/loss Implementation IDEA [RANKED]

Hello,

I am Challenger player on LAN, this account I don't use since my pin is high (different region),

When playing ranked, the losing team ends up losing LP since they were obviously the loser side, what if one ** (1) summoner** from the losing team with the highest score of any role, doesn't lose or gain any LP as a method of compensation for his/her good performance during the game,

Here are some benefits I can think of from doing this:

  • Less pissed off players, blaming their LP loses on bad teammates
  • Even when they know the game is lost, they will still try their best to end up on that top tier of their team to prevent losing LP
  • Above & beyond efforts are well recognized after long games where they loose
  • This should decrease overall toxicity on ranked and even the game experience for many players

I was able to come up with those benefits only after thinking for a bit, I am sure we can come up with more as a community or the assigned Riot team,

Climbing would be easier if this were to be implemented, but here is the criteria to prevent this from happening, The top tier player has to meet a certain threshold to even qualify for this recognition once the game ends,

  • Above a certain CS limit (Ward/vision score for support role)
  • Kill/death ration above a percentage (90% as an example 10/1/0)
  • Below a certain ranked (applying for all players below Masters only, for example)
  • Game has to be longer than a certain time (30:00 for example)

Same here, I came up with those from the top of my head, I am sure there is other criteria you guys can come up with,

Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

It wouldn't work for NA. To many selfish players already with out any rewards for doing it. People would write a game off in lobby if they don't like a comp and aim to stat pad all game rather then try to win.

This literally already happens and the only gain is so they can flame teamamtes about how good their stats are. Kudos! good job splitting top as they took tower after tower.

If you start to think about implementation the Main issue is building a proper system that can sort out the noise from overlapped good/worthless stats. If they are a known variable then its easy to play to generate them. If they are universal some roles lose out. If they don't care about gametime/champions then some champions lose out. If you try to account for each and every champion do you do it off base stats or build "good" stats off a curve and again how do you shift out the noise? Do you account for matchups? such as team synergy or Counter picks?

Elo's system is used because it works, its time tested and peer reviewed for ages.

Personally, I think having Ranked 5 being the competitive que is the way to go. The biggest issue is making shure the player base treats it as such and building the correct incentives to make it popular and viable.

Might incentivize people to play greedy in order to be seen as the best player on the losing team by the system. It doesn't seem like that would have great effects on gameplay. Also, if something like this were implemented, you might also need the reverse - The worst player on the winning team also doesn't gain any LP. That would probably end up being just as tilting for the "worst" player.

As frustrating as the current system can be sometimes, prioritizing anything but winning disincentivizes good team play and should probably be avoided.

To be honest this game is just not meant for soloque, it's meant to be played like clash. Two organized teams 5v5. But flex is so dead. They really should invest more in clash imo.

Issue is that what will happen is that You look up on OP.GG and see that your team is the losing one. So now you will not risk anything to help the team. You will Ward, CS and stay under turret unless its going down. If you see a team mate in need you will not even ping. Why? you now want everyone on your team to feed and die a lot so you will be on top.

A better Ranked System is one were you dont lose LP at all. You only gain LP. Win and Gain, lose and get nothing. The Season is broken up per week. At the end of the week the average LP for each Rank is calculated based on your best 10 games in a row and you are scaled off where you sit compared to others in your rank. If you didnt play you say where you where for one week. The next week you need to play else you will fall. If you are in the top 10% of your rank you promot.

No reason for it, it would just make ranked worse. Wins and losses in the long run is the best way to determine how much a player individually contributes to his team winning. Trying to add other stuff like cams or kda or wards will just make the system worse at identifying individual skill and create more imbalanced games.

After a while, you will have a lot of players with 30-40% win rates being kept at a higher mmr bracket then where they belong simply because of some irrelevant stat and they will in turn drag down their team with the inability to transition their stats into wins.

I have 2 issues for you.

  1. you need to also give 0 lp to the WORST player in the winning team to balance out LP. That's not even negotiable, or the entire ladder collapses, you need to have equal amount of losers and winners in a game.
  2. what do you do when people can tank their MMR as smurfs by going 40/8 and never pushing because they just want to reduce their MMR and they don't even lose LP for it?

This wouldn't work. At best, people would just AFK when they're ahead and they think their team is losing. Supports would just start spending all of their gold on wards once they think they're losing.

It would also only apply to hard carries.

That's pretty weak compared to what we have. We already have a system where all five players on a team actually gain LP when they deserve it.

@Riot hire OP onto your balance team. He seems to be aligned with Riot's amazing balancing abilities. /s

Thanks for the comments and spent energy writing coherent arguments. Didn't think on most of key points brought by you guys and now I believe this idea would make the game shittier. I still believe there are ways in which top tier player can be recognized in a way that would not affect anyone yet make them feel good for their great efforts to carry their losing team. Thanks once again
