Is AP Bruiser Malphite gonna be a thing again? (Discussion)

So as of yesterday, there are some changes to Malachite on the PBE that affect his brutal strikes. Now his bonus armor is passive, and his AoE on hit (used to work passively like Hydra) is now the active and scales with AP.What are your thoughts on these changes? To me, it looks like Crit/AD Malphite is getting the short end of the stick (no more AD multiplier, AoE doesn't scale with AD anymore), and this change won't help AP Burst malphite much at all since it is still physical damage on the AoE. To me it looks like a sort of mixed damage fighter/tank build is going to be the way to go, focusing on items with health, resists, and a small amount of AP and CDR. Do you all think this is the right way to go with Malphite, or should his AD bruiser style be reinforced? Are these overall buffs, nerfs, or neutral changes?

Malphite was a bit weird because he scaled with so many stats: AD, AP, armor, health, CDR, etc. You had to get a good amount of all of those to be most effective.

Now with W being on AP, I'm interested to see how things go. The passive to active AOE damage is a big change, certainly, but I'd expect the damage to be increased to compensate.
