[Remade from Boards] Idea to Fix snowballing

NOTES: Made in Summoner's Rift section of the old forums; Please do not try to repeat concerns, old forums answers quite a few; link to it is here

Snowballing is a big issue in Summoner's Rift, particularly when the snowballer happens to be a Marksman (ADC). I've introduced item to buff up supports, which was actually a really bad idea; an item that blocks the first two deaths, also a bad idea. My new idea is a eloquent solution that requires minimal changes to the game.

Essentially nerf the gold gained from kills; nerf 300 gold down to say 100 gold perhaps. We nerf the gold gain to prevent certain types champions from Snowballing super hard. This would not stop gold gains from farming and would emphasis the importance of farm vs. kills in a big way by broadening the gap of gold gain between the two. That is not to say it would make the game passive, far from it, the champion kill opens a window to exploit a weakness in enemy defenses to attack a tower or maybe get dragon or even baron. The only people who might go passive are the ones that depend on kills to get their gold to be effective rather then high CS.

Part of the reason I want snowballing to be addressed is the fact in some games, the outcome is decided literally in the first 5 minutes because one champion gets fed too much and becomes unstoppable. This is suppose to be a team game, why is one champion able to tip the balance in such a huge way? Ideally kills should be split evenly among the team to promote a team atmosphere. Instead we deal with a atmosphere saying: "my kill, My Kill, MY KILL!". If we wish to promote a team environment, snowballing has to be at least minimized if not eradicated completely.

What do you guys think?

The problem isnt one champion earning their way ahead, its that there is no good way to get back in the game after 0-2.

The game should detect players who are far behind the average for their team, and grant them bonus gold income and xp ( say by 10% of the difference) over time( very rough idea).

Now, i am in favor of lowering kill gold but increasing assist/dragon/tower/baron gold. This would reduce snowballing, but increase the importance of objectives.

Another option would be that every time you are killed by a champion X levels/kills ahead of you, you get a minor amount of xp/gold.( This would likely be abused though)

Games run too long imo( by 5-7 minutes on average for me), and increased gold income would shorten them to a better place imo.

That's because in League of Legends people have a tendency to not want to "break the meta" people think ok their ADC is kicking my ass I have no choice but to go into my lane and try not to die over and over and over. That's not only a bad idea but it's what allows the enemy hero to snowball you want to know what beats this method. Push down towers fast. It's the biggest issue with LoL at the moment there are no real "push" strategies people are so fixated on playing to the meta that they cant possibly fathom how to break the "meta". The game doesn't need to "fix" snowballing that is how carries perform the only difference is they are transitioning very early. But do you want to know what helps teams come back gold and a lot of it.

Meaning if your getting hammered or your ADC is getting hammered. Push down towers and do it fast control dragons make sure you take it every time it's up. The fastest way back is playing as a team. Your focus is on one player but that's not really the idea of the game the focus should be on the team and stopping or slowing down snowballing wouldn't just effect the ADC it effects everyone and works both ways.

tldr:

  1. Snowballing shouldn't be stopped there has to be punishment for getting outplayed or making bad decisions in lane it's how the game works someone has to win and someone has to lose.
  2. There are ways around it but they actually require team coordination which is certainly doable. (though sometimes I wonder with how toxic a lot of people are.) (Totally try playing a push strategy sometime they can be fun.)
  3. If you want a game that has zero to no repercussions when you die try Dominion you can super feed and still win because everyone is getting bonus gold and experience so you never have to worry about falling behind.
