I won 3/4 recent games without (refusing) playing jg
The game I lost, I was 10-8 as ezreal in a duo mid lane. The 3 games I won was playing a support top + top laner. I think jungle is not really much of a necessary role anymore as a well co-ordinated duo top/mid will have much more influence. Sure, smite may help in securing jungle objectives like baron/dragon, but just how useful is it when your jungler is behind and your team is able to zone them out of the pit? Cho gath as a champion is able to out-contest smite at any point after 6, is a solid laner, scales well into mid-late game, naturally beefy while being able to deal respectable amount of damage, both in flat burst and %hp. Pair him up with any support champion capable of setting him up for his rupture, and he snowballs really hard. Most time, I play either zilean for the point click 99% slow plus exp reduction negation or Annie, for her flash burst combo with high AA range harassment in a duo top lane. If the jungler comes to make top a 2v2, they will naturally be down one summoner spells because of smite. All that needs to be done is to have the enemy solo laner tilt from dealing against two people's constant harassment before your bot lane crash. If a bot lane is able to play safe near tower, they should be able to survive till 6 without a problem. If they can't, they probably would still feed even if you were jg and ganking their lanes.
My thoughts in 10.4, a duo lane can still outperform a jungler if played right. Either go with Cho gath as a laner for Baron/Dragon secure, a hyper carry, or a strong pusher in a solo lane with a solid support and you will win against most jungler's team. Don't believe me? Try it out in normal draft with a team that is fine with duo laners.
