The Tribunal MUST come back.

I'm sorry Riot, but the extreme levels of toxicity in this game are unacceptable, and nothing seems to be getting done about it.

I was just in a ranked game playing jungle, when right in the middle of a gank, my internet gave out for about 30 seconds. This resulted in my death in-game, as well as my opponent getting a kill and being able to snowball off of it. Rather than help me get back in the game and recovering from the unfortunate occurrence, my support Alistar proceeded to flame me the entire game. I muted him, but the issue came up when he started to interfere with my play. I could tell from the chat of the rest of my teammates that he was continuing to flame me, and in addition, he, along with our top laner, began to follow me around and steal my buffs from me, guaranteeing that I could not come back in the game.

I still put forth my effort into winning the game, but it's impossible to be content when there is so much toxicity towards you in numerous ways that completely ruins the game experience. It's even more difficult given that the report system is completely useless. This game was the deciding game for my series, which I lost because of this blatant disrespectful behavior in game.

I want consequences for the players that do this. I've seen how extremely toxic players with numerous reports get the hefty bans, but it is very frustrating to see numerous accounts of this behavior that will go unnoticed and unpunished.

I really enjoy playing league, but when I have experiences like this, I want to quit. I don't want to have to deal with players like this who go unchecked and ruin the game for others.

Yeah, unless the people spammed chat with racial & homophobic slurs (and do it the majority of their games), good luck getting them punished for anything. I always thought it would be nice to be able to page a mod to your game to catch people in the act when doing stuff like this. They could be suspended right on the spot, instead of allowing them to ruin games for days, weeks, or even months.

This type of behavior not only ruins the game, but also promotes even more toxicity. I know I'm a lot quicker to snap somebody's head off after finishing up 3-4 games in a row of flat out getting trolled. This game is a huge time investment and it only takes one troll one game to possibly set somebody back hours or days of playtime. I've definitely lost my fair share of promos due to people like this. Last season, I had a guy purposely afk simply because he saw that I was in game three of my promos and even acknowledged he was doing it on purpose (right at the start of the game, completely unprovoked). I about uninstalled the game right there.

That's actually a really good idea, they could have a system where it allows the mod to spectate it and determine if the offense is happening, and then assign punishment accordingly. The player would never know they were being watched until they were punished. The only downside is that Riot would have to have a dedicated team of a lot of people to actually deal with all the requests if this were to actually work. I know people who report both incessantly and needlessly whenever they are frustrated in a game and someone might've happened to say one or two rude comments. Things like that are frustrating sure, but aren't worthy of a report in themselves. Many people like this would spam the system too much. I know they have a way to filter it now, but I'm not sure how effective that is/ would be in a different system

TheRainInSpain2 votes

A person that makes people miserable by deliberately trolling (rather than trying out new champions/tactics) is not new to it. But the mods cannot do this for every single request. But as soon as it hits two requests within a very short period of time, that's grounds for a mod to come look.

100% agree. Tribunal has been down for months and things are getting out of hand. The community has somehow managed to regress to the point it was at before Tribunal was introduced in just a few months. We were going the right direction in instituting tribunal, but now it's been removed, which is a step backwards, and decent, sportsmanlike players are paying the price. I think being able to page a GM is a capital idea. Although the logistics are probably non-conducive.

Hopefully Riot will go through with some of their threats to crack down on toxicity in the community. fingers crossed

Mister Punches4 votes

So far, I've had people threaten to kill me (Not in League though, but in games like Call of Duty. In League, I just get told to kill myself) in video games. In Call of Duty, I sent them a voice text with my address and city, and so far, not a single person who has threatened to kill me has come to my doorstep.

When rage takes over, people of all ages lose their sense of rationality and common sense. In video games, I notice people who are ages 5-20 tend to lose their common sense and rationality after raging hard. Even on League.

The Tribunal is currently in recess, but in turn, Riot is directly judging the cases, so in essence, people who are overly toxic have a MUCH higher chance of getting banned now.

Brenticus1216 votes

You really shouldn't do that. I mean, most people who threaten online aee normally kids, but you never know when you actually find that one psycopath who'll track you down.

One of those kids might even give your information to the wrong people.

Gavran5 votes

Mostly you shouldn't do it because it's super stupid? Like, I'm not the kind of person you'd send that to, but if you somehow did, I'd sign you up for a shit ton of junk mail and worse. In that scenario did you really "win" by acting tough and saying you aren't afraid? Nooope. Just ignore and move past people that act like that. It's literally the only right choice.

Hypnofrog1 votes

or you could just not get your feelings hurt by what people say in a video game, theres always that option. then you wont have a need to ignore or move past, if you lames always tell us ragers that its just a game and too calm down, then it should apply to you, its just a game no need to be upset :^)

Skias3 votes

Because ignoring this behavior will help.

MtZenon2 votes

I'm of the opinion that being positive in general even in the face of trolling > ignoring it > shaming people > raging back. Reporting it at the end regardless of the path you take.

People troll to get a reaction or attention. Nobody trolls in a game with 9 bots. Denying them the attention or emotional reaction removes much of the incentive. (read "the manipulative child" for similar paradigms)

As a contributing member of tribunal before it was taking down, my take on it, was just a communities way to cut down on the amount of bans the Riot Staff had to hand out themselves, by letting the people decide if the case is even worth reviewing, by doing so they can cut down the number of false reports they must weed through in order to ban more seriously offending players.

The people I voted to be banned, we're usually extremely toxic, extremely racists, or just trolling to be a dick. I generally let passes for people who seem like they were doing fine but got upset and raged some.

I don't think there should be any ranked positions limiting, even though every person reading a review might click ban riot might say nah it's cool or just give a warning instead of actually banning.

I feel like tribunal would be better if you could 0/100 scale the need for someone to be Perma banned vs pardoned rather than the 3 options of pardon pass or ban, some players seemed to have being a dick sprees that are worthy of a week long in game mute, seems fine to me, being able to suggest a punishment as a community would be nice, but bearing in mind the person can play an alternative character to negate bans kinda blows...

Trinityunicorn3 votes

Why do you say the report system is completely useless? I just wonder because i'm not under the same train of thought. I thought that the report system was working and racking up multiple reports is what really gets you into trouble <banned>. Is that wrong? I thought it was also somewhat forgiving and not auto punish you for one mistake, but the repeated reports will accumulate against you. Is this not how it works?

ShadowParker1 votes

It depends on who does the reporting and for how much.

Everyone has a set value for reporting, if someone reports a lot, their report values go down and worth far less, vs a player who rarely reports, their report value is worth much more.

As well, a player has to get reported so many times for the same thing. What happens a lot of times is everyone reports for different things. Making it not so valuable.

If someone is toxic, tell everyone to report for the same thing.

wolfax4 votes

Not quite true. You have a reporting number, yes. It goes up and down in weight depending on your activity. I remember reading somewhere though that it only went down if you were consistently doing it for minor things or no reason at all. If you were reporting actual offenses it would stay the same or even go up. I'll try and see if I can scrounge up where I'm pretty sure I read that.

FyreNinja3 votes

It made players feel that they were involved in keeping their game clean, and fun for everyone. That feeling has disappeared now, as "some god" from behind the scenes chooses to punish only the most toxic players and let the "minor" things go unpunished.

KowaiKami3 votes

Riot in its infinite wisdom has 3 latin servers, and one NA server. super duper smart. Why do they have 3 servers....they don't even have clean water.... Us east coast players are stuck playing at 130-140 ping everygame. I switched to LAN and play at 40 ms...guess what? i jumped up a whole tier...and im still climbing. The pros are Cali in for the ping while Riot gives a middle finger to the rest of us. I made the realization that they aren't good....they are just at really low pings.

Watch93 votes

Which, is why chat restrictions are in play I think. The tribunal did increase the number of toxicity from players enraged at their bans. Riot released chat restrictions a few months ago I think, and they started out with maybe the first 30 people who actually deserved a chat restrictions. However, chat restrictions are also causing players to start spamming the boards, asking and telling riot how they didn't do anything wrong. THEN, some rioters will answer them with their latest "chat free" game showing every single word they said.

Life is a struggle. TBH, just add a game mode or game type restriction.

CoolKnightST3 votes

It's not only the Tribunal. Whe need a entire new system. Would should be allowed to rate players for their behavior and reward them when they are possitive but also rate them negative when it's needed. Their is always someone that points a finger to someone that it's his fault whe lost a game.

I would like to see a system that allows you to rate players on behavior and skills. League should be aimed towards rating people rather than redirect them to the report button. Whe should be able to rate a player from 1 to 5:

Behavior

  • [Ticket]
  • 1: Unhealthy
  • 2: Negative
  • 3: Neutral
  • 4: Healthy
  • 5: Positive
  • [Friendly]

Skills

  • [Ticket]
  • 1: Unskilled
  • 2: Less Skilled
  • 3: Average
  • 4: Good
  • 5: Very Good
  • [Honnorable]

Other

  • [Report]

Sending a Ticket will be similar as sending a report. But their is a differents. You will now get punished from sending false reports. Both behavior as skills will be presented to the player as a bar that only he can see. If the player notice his bar is low he knowns he has todo something on it to improve himself.

Champion Skin1 votes

Though in theory it shouldn't be necessary to include skill as the matchmaking algorithm should take care of that by itself Unfortunately it isn't always all that accurate and it also might be a bit slow to assign the right mmr to the individual players/accounts

CoolKnightST1 votes

I never said the system would effect their mmr. Currently a player mmr will drop with 1 if they get reported for unskilled several times. I think the system should not be connected with factors that effect the matchmaking.

Things that can be done is dropping their mmr if serveral tickets have been approved. The amount of mmr dropping could maybe depend on the status of the skill bar.

For the behavior maybe chat restrictions could be activated when serveral tickets have been approved. The punishment could be calculated on the status of the behavior bar whenever the punishment get increased or decreased.

Reports should not taken the bars in the calculation since if a report get approved whe claim the situational or conflict apeared and that punishment are warning should be aquired.

Overal I think the bar should be more of a visual thing for the player. He litterly must see on the bar when he goes bad or improves himself.

Champion Skin1 votes

Sounds reasonable however... if the matchmaking system works properly you will most likely be around average most of the time with some good and bad games

CoolKnightST1 votes

You would be supprised on how many times the average would be used. Everyone can have a bad game. Everyone can lane against someone that is or deserves to be in a higher bracket of play. Often in the end of the game most players have no idea who actualy underperformed that game. I wouldn't point out the skill bar as a indicator. Don't forget you will never see that skill bar from your teammates & opponent anyway. You basicly rate the player from your personal experience and what you have noticed about this player. For example let's say your jungler never missed a smitefight but failed with 2 ganks on your lane. You will most likely rate the player lower for his mistakes while someone else even rate him higher because those smitefights where the actualy gamechanger. People will rarely rate a player on average and will most likely rate lower whenever they lose a game and higher when they win it.

And offcourse in theory your skill bar would be arround average. That's called ballance. For the behavior bar I feel it would be different however.

You DIED and he SNOWBALLED and then probably it was shown that you DISCONNECTED. (I don't care for what reason it happened; it is NOT anyone's problem what happened to your connection, simply don't play ranked if you have a bad internet) At that very moment you put all your teammates on TILT and then BLAME them for acting stupid towards you. Dude, you are playing in one of the lowest leagues of this game - people are very emotive and will without esitation show it one way or another. You lost that game by yourself. And please don't bring that atrocious "TRIBUNAL" where bronze players will judge diamonds and challengers or any other higher division than them. Unless you are Gold or above, for example, you should NOT be able to judge Gold or above - since every leagues has its players with very differents way of acting ingame - depending on their understanding of the game itself. For example, a bronze may think when someone tells in a diamond game "unfortunate~, bad luck m8" or anything similar to this that it is NOT toxic at all - well, sorry it IS toxic and put people on tilt. I'm sure people on lower division just love to curse eachother and god knows what but when the game goes on a different lvl, people will use other (smarter) ways to be toxic.

DaCush7 votes

I lol'd. You need to get off your high horse as well as actually think about what you say before y u say it before you look like a fool like you just did. Toxicity is toxicity. The only thing that separates a plat from a bronze player is skill, not player behavior. Do you even know how the tribunal works? In order to be sent to the tribunal you have to get reported by your teammates multiple times. Know what that means? Means that a plat player gets reported for toxicity by other plat players enough times to be sent to the tribunal. God, this post is so dumb >.< Then when they get sent to the tribunal anyone can decide if this person will he punished but it has to be the majority so it's not just one person doing it. Then I'm pretty sure it gets sent to Riot to officially decide the punishment they receive. Now the current system does this same thing except you don't get player input, it just automatically gives you a punishment which is much more harsh so I'm not sure the OP realizes that but as far as your post......you are what's wrong with League. From what I've read, you actually think Bronze players compared to Gold players are horrible human beings. You actually judge a person based on their rank in a video game so if you met someone in the real world and they said they played League and said they were bronze, I can see you spitting on them and telling them they're shit. You take this game way too seriously and need to get some fresh air and see the real world and not judge someone based on a rank in a video game that only describes their "skill level".

Watch92 votes

**(I know this isn't what you're arguing about)**Excuse me, but are you judging player skill from leagues? It is kinda true that the lower the league, the lower the skill. However you can't just say that a player in Bronze 1 is no match for a player in Silver 1 or higher. Part of your playing skill also comes from your conscious. A player in Bronze 5 will think that they suck and belong here, while a player in challenger will think that they're a freaking beast at this game.

Yùsùkè1 votes

Well, as expected BRONZE players will downvote rofl. This game is just easy and doesn't requie you to be a genius to get out of bronze. If you are stuck in bronze with more than 100 games, let's say, you really have a problem with how your brain works. You don't have to spend your life on this game to get out of bronze, not even a single minute more than usual playing just to make it through. And anyway, someone like you, Bronze, probably will see whaever imaqtpie, for exemple, who just types not-so-nice messages towards his team as a TOXIC player. Ye sure, he swears a lot in chat and does whatever, but is he toxic? No. He is known as a good sportmanship player that likes to act dumb and have fun, but will a Bronze know that, since he never met him? No, he will just approve that he was toxic. Why am I even trying to explain to a Bronze elementary things when obviously doesn't understand anything.

The tribunal worked for the first bit of its existence. After that it really didn't do its job. If they bring it back they need to fix it. Also, it was really hard to catch anything outside of chat. All you're given is chat, and have no clue what actually happened in the game. Just the endgame items, KDR, and chat logs.

Ada Wong2 votes

The Tribunal Needs to come back true.

But the old Tribunal Sucks, and I hope the new one has (More Data) which gives things like Pre-Game logs, and possibly a (Replay OF Game) at least the user is punish and or pardon to judge things like feeding.

Riot Said they don't enforce (Meta) or (Specific Champions) But I have had a Huge problem with players being toxic the last 2 weeks at least its why I went from S2 to S5, and I was in promo's to S1 at one point almost to gold until getting trolled constantly to players who did not care, and can you believe this I went from b5 to s2 at one time then started running into constant toxic players again.

We need Pre-Game chat in the Tribunal for sure for the reason that a lot of Toxicity I have experience the last week happens here, some players Absolutely (Refuse To Communicate) <-- This should be punish worthy by at least lowering (LP) when found guilty by the tribunal of non communication pre-game possibly rank especially when players choose not to say anything and just auto lock something, or do not say anything when clearly asked or something is said in chat. (Not all games are like this sometimes I get good games where players all work together but this is harder to get right now.)

I will give a good example some games that I played recently even with (Pick Order) because some will complain that this means something I clearly said in chat that I was playing Jung because someone wanted mid, I also asked what they were playing to know what type of Jungle I should be playing they did not pick a good champion for Mid that worked well with the jungler I would normally play so I picked a uncommon jungle in lower elo, and then get flammed in pre-game, and the mid laner who well aware of what I was going to do told someone else to go Jungle they start the game and Intentionally screw up the game steal farm don't setup any ganks at all, and then (Threaten Reports) so I just report both players for (Assisting Enemy Team) because this is mainly what I feel they did not so much Verbal Abuse.

Sometimes it comes to the point where I just really don't care anymore win or lose if they don't care and troll why should I really make a big deal because a game is likely going to be lost.

That Lemur Guy1 votes

I think a lot of this has to do with the draft pick in queue and the inability of a team to request a game be dropped. For example if one person comes into champ select and is raging the other 4 members of that team should have an option to request a new member. Majority of the time I play with trolls and toxic players I know they are before the game starts. So if you can fix the problem before it becomes a problem, it will improve the community though the community. If a person gets kicked from champ select over and over, there should be an investigation into their behavior. Also to protect people from getting booted because they are not good players because someone searched their name in champ select, names should not be given to other summoners until the game starts. I do feel that the end of the season toxicity gets worse, but it is what it is. In relation to a need for change, riot did fix part of the end of season problem last season, if you remember people couldn't demote from gold to silver and it was super bad, now they can. Just remember that while there are toxic players, that riot is slowly working toward the solution. Yet, they can just focus on one issue at a time. They must focus on new things and fixing problems to keep the game interesting and popular. I know I find myself being upset with trolls, but there is progress being made. Yet, I do feel a champ select fix would be helpful because then people won't dodge a queue once a day like I do in champ select when I see a troll or toxic player in select.

Konidias1 votes

I think a lot of this has to do with the draft pick in queue and the inability of a team to request a game be dropped. For example if one person comes into champ select and is raging the other 4 members of that team should have an option to request a new member.

While this sounds nice in theory, I can picture myself getting removed from quite a few champ selects due to my unconventional picks.

I can play Quinn top and mid really well, but not surprisingly, a lot of people lose their minds when I lock Quinn and say I'm going mid. I've had entire teams threaten to report me over it... so yeah, I'd barely ever be able to get into a game without following whatever the majority of my team considers "okay" to play.

Basically we would be forced to play the meta and it would give your team more control over what champs/roles you are allowed to play.

Had a game yesterday where I was second pick. I picked Quinn and said "mid" in chat.

Last pick goes and grabs Ziggs and locks. I then say... "dude I'm mid" and he says "no you aren't, you are adc". (I get this ALL. THE. TIME.) Then I proceed to tell him he should have read that I picked mid, and he screwed up... but then the whole team jumped to his defense and told me to go adc because I'm Quinn... so under your suggestion, this team would have just kicked me out and I wouldn't even get to play... then I get to wait in a longer queue and hope I get a team that allows me to play the role I'm best at.

Also this could work in reverse... 1 person would still be able to dictate the entire team... You could just say "mid or feed" and your team would either be forced to give you that role, or they could kick you out... which would result in you losing no LP/time and not having to play any games where you aren't your preferred role.

tldr: a vote kick in champ select could and would be abused

That Lemur Guy1 votes

I like the points. And I see your concern. I don't foresee people defending the person that said mid or feed. I wouldn't let them pick I would vote to kick right away. To me I was thinking for it to be used along the lines to protect from toxic players.

The fabled toxicity, I bet Lyte could make you believe in Santa Claus as well if given enough time.

What you have there is not "toxic", it's an ancient term called griefing now referred to as trolling, this is the result of a terrible social system design that begun with the tribunal and is now being enforced by Riot itself, Raj and his Indians pals to be more specific ( taking a wild guess ).

Both the tribunal and whatever they have today are "toxic" to this game's health - yup - I actually called it toxic.
