@Riot: Overall long term vision for Azir?

First, this is not a complaint thread! Making this to start some actual meaningful communication with the team that works on Azir. I love Azir as a champion and immediately started maining him after release. The last set of changes and notes on those changes brought up some questions for me that I hope I can get answered here if they are watching these boards.

So, in the patch notes I saw that it says Azir was too strong late game and weak early game. I can vouch for this, he could get really insane late game, but in his early levels (especially upon release) you basically assumed nothing was happening until at least level 6.

I thought the point of Azir though was that he was a late game champion much like the reworked Cassiopeia. Essentially you didn't get to have first blood, but your champion later on would be a lot stronger.

My question then is why the specific add 15 damage to his Q across the board (instead of say changing it's scaling to .70 ap which would give you about 15 damage with your first tome or dorans ring) and is Azir meant to be a middle game champion? The way to increase damage on Azir has always been to find ways to get the most number of soldier attacks in at a time where as the Q change implies a change to more burst which is not exactly what Azir does.

What is the overall vision for Azir? Where would you optimally like him to be in terms of balance? ( I realize this is a sticky question so I understand if the answer is a little ambigious).

So I really like The Emperor as well, and I gave him a go round last night to see how these changes effected him. I definitely noticed the loss of soldier damage but by no means did it feel crippling to me. The Q didn't feel all that much stronger though, so I really don't feel like they switched his power around so much as nerfed him the slightest bit.

Mostly however I am a tad upset that they are tweaking his numbers while he is still buggy as hell. His ult still goes right through enemy champs way too often. Additionally last night I was running away, and had a soldier out. When I reached max tether ranger instead of the soldier disappearing I suddenly went flying backwards into the enemy team and was instantly exploded. :/

This is my general consensus. Azirs ability to zone is somewhat better, but just barely. I was optimally using my Q to set up soldier attacks which now do less so my overall damage is actually worse even if it's easier to annoy enemies with my Q. So it still nerfs even his early game. It was odd as you say that they implemented these changes while his ultimate was completely non functional for a week so it was hard to even tell where he fell in the meta.

There seems to be a strange idea that they want him to burst more with his Q except his kit is not a bursting kit. Q is a good zoning tool and probably why they went that direction, however it's not an improvement over better scaling or just giving him some other kind of buff. Honestly I didn't really see the problem with him simply being powerful late game since you had to survive to get there and then he still has counters.

Speaking of counters, to the other poster I hear what you are saying, but then the counter to Azir is basically anything that can land on you from a distance that makes you have to move instead of soldier attacking. Karthus for example can be a giant headache and so can cassiopeia. Also as you mentioned the same is true for kat, akali, talon etc. They do become less of a counter as Azir goes into late game, but that is also because their late games scale off. By the time they meet in the middle with one scaling up and one scaling down Azir comes out a bit ahead (also a lot of your items you are going to build have HP on them).

I really just want to know what the long term goal for Azir is as a champion. The lowering of his W soldier scalings also leans him towards Mpen being better than AP, but all the mpen items are worse for him in general than the AP items you would rather be building. For example, rylai's and rabadons seems pretty core where as liandry's is still good though rarely optimal. I also frequently use ionian boots instead of sorcerer shoes which are one of the most efficient ways of building cdr. Lastly, no mpen items come with cdr on them. In general a real head scratcher moment of where is this champion trying to go?

Dont worry, 4 patches from now Riot will realize they over nerfed him and buff his ratio to .65

I think the problem is the fact that his weaknesses are completely negated late game. You out play him by moving out of the range of his soldiers and baiting him to send them out to areas that will place him at a disadvantage (like far away from him or covering less area). However his cooldowns are so low late game with both low base and max CDR (which is a must) that he completely doesn't give 2 craps about anything anymore. Even if you have a blink dash, hell wait for you to use it, ult you away and dispose of you in seconds. Mixed with long range, high attack speed, amazing ratios, there is almost nothing you can do to efficiently kill him in fights. I'm not complaining here because I play Azir and people like Katarina, Talon or Kassadin who are suppose to counter him just don't late game.

This is not bad for balance but also gameplay. I want to be good because I manage my soldiers properly, I don't want to feel like just another mage with skillshots.
