While I love Taric, there's no point in playing him at the moment. He's too clunky and slow in every aspect compared to those who do similar things. Wait for the work.
For Sona, I'd say use her in low elo but her short range and long wait on CC make her out classed in higher elo facts where people know how to punish her.
I'd use Spellthief's on her if you feel safe, Ancient Coin if you don't. Rush Sightstone and Mobility boots, then follow up with s Mikhael's. Getting the chalice earlier for mana regeneration in lane isn't a bad idea either.
Laning, focus on keeping your Spellthief stacks off so you have as much gold as possible. Later you just want to follow around your marksman (or make if she's doing better) and keep them healthy and buffed. If you see an opportunity to ult a large group of enemies do so, but keep it saved as a follow up to your main initiator.
Not only Taric, there many other supports which are in a bad state right now.
Soraka is finnaly getting reworked(expecting it to be in patch 4.16 max),they annocunced Alistar getting a rework(combo will be removed),Zilean(unknown scale),Lulu (getting nerf because of solo performance) and Nunu (not sure what gto say about this guy).
Cant waot for all the reworks :)
Hmm Sona is a relatively safe support. I havent figured out the perfect way to lane with her yet, but there are always 2 options to do so.
You max W and buy Coin - thats a defensive, safe lane when you know that your opponent is stronger. For extra safety, max E second. You wont be killing anyone and its highly unwise to play this way against supports with hard cc (morgana thresh leona braum), but it increases your sustain and allows your adc to powerfarm
Or get spellthief and max Q, the old way. You got a good poke and your sustain is still somewhat decent. Make sure to use your Q aura to the fullest, work with your adc to maximize the damage.
My prefered build is support starting item, sightstone (depending on the enemy jungler's activity I might choose to fully upgrade starting item instead of buying sightstone on my first back) then good pick ups are crucible, ardent censer and locket. You get two of them depending on the enemy team (no use for crucible if enemy has no cc) and your build (ardent censer, crucible and upgraded coin all provide mana regen, getting them all is a bit of a waste. Make sure you dont pass the 40% cdr limit too.
For boots, you either get merc threads or swiftnesses, mobility are fine too i suppose, but they arent as effective during a fight.
For late game item i like to get rylais, its the most effective ap late game item for supports. You might swich it for rabadons, depends on what you value more
I main support; you may enjoy my stream (http://www.twitch.tv/thealltomato), although I don't play these two champions as often as other champions.
Thank you all for the replies :))
I would like too especially thank The All Tomato for the link to his guide he provided. Its really well made.
Oh my, how I have been waiting for a thread like this. I love Taric. In fact, with items he is one of the best duelists in game (Not possible in support though). Simply put, people were offput by his preseason nerfs because they hadn't really given any thought to how to build him other than "Stack Armor = Pwn Nubs." This is simply not the case. Taric is by far one of the better late-game supports, and can often provide the raw damage necessary to win trades. Here is a rather standardized build that Support Taric should be able to finish:
Start: Relic Shield + Ward + Health Pot + Yellow Trinket
Rush second tier of Relic Shield and then get sightstone.
Glacial Shroud -> Ionian Boots -> Frozen Heart
By this point, you should have 40% CDR, gaining an extra 5% from masteries
Nab a Wit's End and your core is complete.
Max W, then E, and Q last, with points dropped in R whenever possible. Please note that you should start with E, putting a point into both Q and W before maxing any of them. Your lategame combo should be as such: W - E - W - Q - W - ect, and gives Taric incredible sustained damage.
The key point with Taric is that when the enemy engage upon your adc, you immediately engage upon theirs. It simply must be done, as you can easily turn the tide of a losing battle.
In conclusion, I am certainly not the best player in the world, nor do I claim to be. However, many write Taric off before giving him a chance to shine, trying to play him as a stat-stick rather than the effective duelist he can be. Cheers!
