Overlooked potential? Ranged CC in Top

A very common sight in the top lane is the tank.. Slow moving punishers that laugh at gankers... However, this makes me wonder... Because of this, would it make a cc oriented ranged user a viable toplaner? I have ended up in top with Anivia a few times, and she does surprisingly well against tanks, landing a few kills along the way...

Until she gets ganked and has no mobility to run a marathon to get to her tower.

Ok valid point, though wouldn't that be a notable problem in other lanes too? (Well, less so mid untill you are at inner, but that part is still a problem)

EDIT: Don't most CC-centric people have the ability to use CC to escape?

idk if he is seen much but Ryze use to be a common sight top side.

also elise is a top laner too.

Anivia's not all that easy to gank top lane. Top lane's pretty linear when it comes to ganking. Back off when you see them coming, Q stun the top laner, wall off the jungler. Easy peasy.

Annie Brand Diana Galio Kennen Karma Lissandra Zyra Viktor are all very strong anti top lane top laners

I think one day, this might actually be a thing, tank destroyers... Especially when considering the fact that a lot of them don't deal with certain midlaners well... Also, setting up a team to work with this can have a very interesting fast paced late game with a solid amount of utility in a team.

Instead of Tank;Melee burst;All-rounder mage(Arhi);Marksman;Support (Morgana or Lulu)

You can have: CC mage (with solid damage... or an overloaded support[Anivia or Morgana]);Melee burst;Solid damage mage(annie);Marksman;Specialized support (Soraka or Sona)

It also can be a bit nicer in queueing up as not a lot of people seem to WANT to tank and top lane ends up as the 'Shortest Straw'
