Can you spell "permaslow" and "toxic"? ^^

I'm actually interested in how well Skarner uses this item. Right now, he is probably best off with Cinderhulk and then IBG/Triforce as an offensive item/sticking tool. But with the buff's coming in for Runeglaive, Skarner has high base AD and all of his abilities scale off of AP so the spellblade effect in conjunction with an increase in AP (though not by much :P) might make this pretty strong and comparable at least to his Cinderhulk build. You probably go pure tank after this with Righteous Glory?

either item 3068 item 3800 item 3143

Or you can go full AP and get item 3157

After Glaive and Rylai's?

You'll probably need some resistances before purchasing more HP yet, as it amplifies the value of your AP-boosted shield.

If it was live, I'd recommend the reworked Abyssal and FH, with a final Randuin's/Glory/Banshee's/Banner to top the build off.

Lich Bane still better than Runeglaive on both of them.

While true, in GPs case it doesnt convert the whole damage of parrlay into magic.

Ravenhale1 votes

Upvoted because my Nidalee already built Lich Bane with the Magus. Now no Magus and a RuneGlaive that is about half a Lich Bane (and the identical spellblade doesn't stack).

Lich Bane is also much more expensive. Runeglaive basically cost 1400g, merely 200g more than Sheen. Yes, Lich Bane does more overall damage, but you can get this much earlier, and then turn the extra 1600 into a Needlessly Large Rod.

Your champion's own ratios should be able to use the extra 40 ap (over Lich Bane) to do more damage than you lose from Runeglaive's lower ratio.

You're a jungler. You need to buy your 850g jungle item in order to be able to jungle. It's your gold generation item, and it also gives you bonus damage and sustain to clear the jungle. The upgraded jungle item is also worth the 450g just for that awesome ability to smite junglers.

Regardless of what other items exist, you will be getting your tier 2 jungle item first if you are a jungler. That item is too important to pass up.

That's why I say that Runeglaive effectively costs 1400g - it's 1400g more than what you would be buying anyway.

I'm going to skip your two examples and go with AP Eve, whom I am more familiar with.

Before, you would buy: Magus: 1400g Deathcap: 3300g Lich Bane: 3000g Total: 7700g

Now, you buy: Runeglaive: 1400g Deathcap: 3300g Luden's: 3100g Total: 7800g

Both provide the same amount of AP (~378 after the 35% bonus from Deathcap and masteries.)

E damage is the same, except in the new jungle it's half magic damage instead of entirely physical - that should be dealing more damage against most targets, especially since AP Eve likes to build Sorc's.

The Spellblade proc is lower, from 255 damage with Lich Bane to 180 damage with Runeglaive. However, the Runeglaive build gets a bonus 157 damage burst from Luden's.

Total bonus damage for the Magus+Lich Bane build: 634 Total baonus damage for the Runeglaive+Luden's build: 715

That's 12.8% more damage for 1.3% more gold.

(This assumes Eve is level 11 (for her base AD values), and doesn't count her base damages or the bonuses from any other items, runes, or masteries.)

Note that I didn't include the damage output from her Q because it's not affected by either build. Also note that this doesn't take into consideration the extra 10% CDR that Magus provides, but you did explicitly say you were talking about single-target burst.

Also, all of these numbers are going to be obsolete tomorrow with the AP item changes, but since Runeglaive is getting buffed (+0.25 AD scaling and +10 AP), I'd imagine the changes should be even more in its favour.

Couldn't agree more. Except for one thing.

It used to go: Magus-->Catalyst/Tear-->Damage item now you can go: Runeglaive-->Damage Item-->Damage item

The old Magus forced you to hold off on building damage immediately as you needed mana sustain in the jungle even with Ranger's Trailblazer (bonus points on Runeglaive as you can get Red or Blue Smite now without hurting you in the jungle). You of course could horde blue buffs, but then your laners would be effectively weaker by midgame. You can still build a mana sustain item in addition to Runeglaive if you really feel the need (though it is not completely necessary), and with the AP itemization changes, AA staff and ROA are looking pretty appealing on someone like Nidalee, who could use the mana for extended sieges.

The comparison to Lichbane has been made countless times, but you both get the spellblade earlier, AND it doesn't compromise your build order if you were to rush Lichbane. For instance, with Magus, when would you be able to build Lich? Well, you'd get your jungle item first, then your mana sustain item. Next you probably want some combat stats. You could opt for Lichbane here, but an item with some defensive properties would probably be better at this point because teamfights are about to go down, so you would probably opt for Zhonya's or Abyssal as your 3rd item. Next you are going to need some meaningful damage, so your next item will probably be Deathcap or Void, but you only have 2 item slots left. Do you get Void + D-cap, Void + Lichbane, or D-cap + Lichbane?

There were big tradeoffs anyway you would build. Runeglaive solves that for the most part by taking Lichbane out of the equation, and to an extent, it takes the mana sustain item out of the equation as well, freeing up 2 slots to use as you wish. You can focus on what can give you an edge without hindering your build so much. For instance, now Nidalee can more easily buy Luden's for poking down enemies from afar, or she can emphasize her Cougar form so she can be more adaptive in teamfights. Diana can opt for a tankier build without sacrificing her build substantially, or she can build more damage than before. AP Eve looks even more viable as her E will do magic damage (on the first hit), and her AP bruiser build looks just about as good late game as her AD build with a stronger early game and more burst. Ekko and Fizz like the Sheen early as well (although I think it's very debatable if Cinderhulk+Sheen item builds are stronger on them right now). And Elise.... we won't talk about Elise :P.

I will say that Fiddle, Karthus(never saw him anyway), and AP Amumu have been hurt by the change from Magus, but all of the other prominent AP junglers have benefited from the change. I kind of feel like they should have kept Magus in conjunction for the pure Mage junglers, but I really like the new item. One thing that people fail to realize is how much more money you make with Runeglaive when compared to Magus. You can stay in the jungle longer and you clear faster. Nidalee and Diana can get as much gold as a laner just from farming in the jungle (this kind of applies to all of the AP junglers, but I feel these two have the fastest clears and can farm longer than someone like Eve who has no form of sustain or damage mitigation, so she should be looking to gank a lot early before getting some defensive/sustain oriented items).

Anyway. This is just my opinion, but I feel like I can back up my argument fairly well. I will say that the AP it gives/gave initially was very lackluster and I'm glad it is getting an AP buff (I wanted 60AP, but I will settle for 50 and a stronger spellblade). The item itself is a very good concept and I think for the most part, it delivers. Peace.

I understand what you are saying here. You don't buy Lich's Bane if you have Runeglaive.

But Runeglaive is not a buff for Nidalee. It's a nerf. Compared to Magus, she is always 40AP behind, which she won't make up till the very end by picking a 120AP item instead of the 80AP Lich's Bane (Luden's is the most equal trade off). It hurts her mid game, and she already is regarded as a very weak late game champion.

I understand I can pick up a Needlessly Large Rod. Please understand that I would pick that up to build the other items anyways.

I think the more interesting debate is if Lich's Bane is even an option if you chose a different Jungle Enchantment.

On a more serious note, try it on champions that usually take Sheen and build AD

Then laugh at the satanic ritual you just did

Have you seen Critplank with magic damage? The AP component is wasted, but ow.

Meh, the AP at least makes his oranges heal a bit more, and Powers up his ult a little bit. It's not fantastic, but I wouldn't say it was wasted either.

Evelynn It works every 2 seconds, and Evelynn's Q is about 2 seconds CD, so its like, Q-AA proc-Q-AA proc-Q-AA proc and it gets a lot of damage.

Runeglaive is awesome on Nidalee, Diana, Eve, Gragas, and TF jungle from what I can tell so far. Probably more champions that can use it well too.

Super troll build: Runeglaive Draven

item 3708 item 3153 item 3031 item 3072 item 3139 item 3508 + item 2140

You don't really need boots since you should be catching axes and refreshing your W for the movement speed and attack speed. If you are proficient at catching axes, you can have 2 axes going and use your W every 2 seconds for the Runeglaive proc. You will alternate between doing massive physical damage and massive magic damage. It's not uncommon to crit for 1400 physical damage on one attack, and then runeglaive proc for 1200 magic damage on the next attack.

You have a pretty low crit chance, but in return you get massive mixed damage that's harder to build against. The main weakness is a lack of attack speed, so if you can team up with a Nunu or Nidalee .... it would be pretty hilarious.

P.S: Haven't tried this in ranked, just did it to screw around and found it pretty funny.
