Everyone is OP or Not Viable

Hello I am Bird··1 votes·1,315 views

So I was talking with my friends in around gold, Diamond, and master (Im only Silver 4) One guy said he was playing Zed, so the guy in Diamond says "What an OP champion!" I pick Vladimir and the same guy says "What a completely un-vaible champion" This went on and on between my 3 friends and it helped me notice that there is no "This champion is in a really good spot" When a champion is in a really good spot, they are considered un-viable to the majority of the community. But I will keep picking Vlad because I know that he (At least in silver) can bully out most mids, while at the same time having some pretty good counterplay Vlad is not the pinnacle of a balanced champion, but of all the resourcless ones, I think he's the most balanced

Let's get another example. Top lane One guy will pick Pantheon Once again I hear everyone say "Omg what an op champion. Rito plz nerf" I would pick Mundo and they would say something like "LOL scrub picking an un-viable champ like Shyv, what are you, Bronze 5?) They soon don't say anything to me as I start carrying as Mundo. And after the game they would say something like "What an op champion y hasn't riot nerfed him yet omg"

It makes me sad to see that people seem to only categorize champions into two categories, with nothing in between.

Aatrox LOL what n00b whould pick him Nautilus How to throw featuring... Cassiopeia Don't even bother, she can't even pull her own weight

Meanwhile... MasterYi OMG GIMME DAT YI Riven WELP GG THEY GOT A RIVEN. SURRENDER AT 10 Thresh ALL HAIL THRESH, CONQUERER OF LEAGUE OF LEGENDS

It's stupid to say the least

Yi is by no means overpowered, but can snowball easily Aatrox can hold his own well enough, despite having to rely on aa Riven does not have as much godly power as many belive, and can be countered by just about any cc Thresh, while great at engaging and disengaging, has to land a skillshot in order to be useful, unless you are getting right in his face Nautilus has good ganking potential and a good escape, provided you get him boots a bit lighter than the ones he's wearing Cassiopeia has surprising burst potential for her new rework

These people arent instawins, and these people aren't completely non-viable Unless you are playing someone who was gutted to stupid levels (Fiora) then your skill relies on... Your skill, not just the champion you play as. Some champions are easier to play (MasterYi) and because of that have more counter-play, while some are harder (Viktor) but when understanding how to play them, makes them god-like

Tl;Dr: The title explains everything here

your friends may have high ranked but really do not understand the game it seems. They seem to say OP to any snowball champ. What are they 16?

Mundo so weak played recently korea in there Pro games. while yi and is never picked.

There are a lot of champs that are in a good place. (though i argue tanks as a class is not). Cass was so not over tuned that she is not getting nerfs in the next patch(yes she is).

How much of this your friends fucking with u?

I feel like what they said needs some context. "balanced" champions exist, but so do overpowered ones who need tweaks and nerfs. As long as the overpowered champions (or simply better tier) exist in the game, "balanced" champions are unviable because they're weaker than the overpowered ones. Yes they work in solo queue, because everything does. But it doesn't mean they're viable (the best). I had close to a 60% win rate with Naut last season, but that doesn't make him viable.

TL;DR your friends are just short handing their ideas

A very simple guide to how many players think. The champ they play = Perfectly balanced The champ that counters their champ = Incredibly OP and needs to be gutted The champ that their champ counters = totally unviable and a troll pick

There is a little lee way in this, but it's a pretty common mind set.

Actually, this is not. I' m a low silver scrub but i fail to see where your friend is right: every champion has his power in designed situations, and that's the good of the game, but this does not mean they are not unbalanced. A master Yi will most always outduel anyone, but in TF will suck and early too. Sure there are champions that are off-set ( yorick, urgoth and so on ) but because of design flaws, not balance.

Also you both look based on forum aaaaand there is little objectivity here.

I've got a friend that I'm pretty sure defines "Over Powered" as anything that had more utility or did more damage than him last game. Poppy, Shaco, Sona, and many others that I've come to ignore.

I've got another friend who's first reaction to hearing a build is to doubt it would work.

Then I've got friends in between, and we all make fun of each other because we ask have querks like that.

To me it breaks down like this:

  1. Clearly overpowered
  2. Slightly overpowered
  3. Balanced
  4. Slightly underpowered
  5. Clearly underpowered

90% of champs fall into the middle three categories, and the categories themselves are very mutable depending on matchups. A lot of champions that fall into slightly underpowered can be very strong against certain matchups. Overall the list of completely non-viable champs is very short. The same goes for stupidly overpowered champs.
