Man I don't understand these boards

Hello I am Bird·5/15/2017, 7:56:09 PM·149 votes·4,208 views

I hate the celebrity bias or whatever you wanna call it. Everyone on the boards like to pride themselves on being more intellectual and speaking for what's right, yet the moment that someone posts and idea it's downvoted to oblivion. Then, when Laughing fish or Malicous Metal posts the exact same idea, worded generally the same, they get hundreds of upvotes. Then, when people see Laughing/Metal post an idea, they get the great idea to rephrase the exact same thing they said, only with less points and a witty pun. These posts then flood the hot boards, and any real discussion anyone could have besides "Fuck Riot change this" is pushed to the wayside in favor of "Man, I just lost against a Yasuo, BETTER MAKE A RAGE POST ABOUT HIM AND START THE HATE TRAIN AGAIN" Now is the point where I say "You all will downvote me for saying this" so that you'll upvote me because the people on the boards feel some sense of justice upvoting people when they say that. Most of the boards community are such sheeps and I hate the fact that nobody can have any real discussion because everything revolves around a common point.

The only exception I can find for this are when lore events come out and everyone starts hypothesising, one of the only times that the boards provides meaningful discussion.

The Boards has its inherent problems, and that's one of the main reasons we set up the Boards Community & Moderation sub-board. We're actively trying to gather feedback to better understand how we can address a lot of these issues as a community. Generally, I think name recognition for a lot of people is related to the quality of content from that player (very broadly speaking). I think there are a good number of meme posts that generate quality discussion by shining light on a topic with humor, but yes, there are also plenty of posts that don't generate that same discussion value but also make it to the front page, bumping down some other quality posts. If you have a way to address this, I very strongly encourage you to post your ideas and feedback in the Boards Community & Moderation sub-board.

To be fair, Laughing Fish does not make a lot of Gameplay posts and MM is reasonably tolerant with his views.

These celebrities are known for their memes and flashy names if anything.

But if we have a hate train against this, which is ironic since you're protesting that very thing, then this comment will be seen only be the most dedicated Boards perusers.

Honestly? Quality content is upvoted.

It's up to the author to make it enjoyable and eye catching for the reader though to make it gather attention and thus become hot-page material. Good formatting, easily processed paragraphs, an anecdote or two and a picture that makes for a good thumbnail are some of the things that make a post get upvoted.

But yeah, let's just complain about the circlejerk, thus creating ANOTHER anti-circlejerk-circlejerk to combat the circle-jerk instead of actually trying to make good posts. That'll do the trick, right?

I would add to that list of celebrities, but I think we all know who the up-vote farmers are around here.

It's difficult to talk about balance on the boards. Anytime you bring it up the boards has to redefine what balance even is to derail the thread.

It's also impossible to suggest ideas, because you either go short and sweet to pander to people's attention span, or you actually come up with a serious solution and your audience dwindles to nothing.

can you provide proof of this

You nailed it. The brainwashed masses will instinctively down vote you if you are critical of the game or Riot. Their stupid nerd egos compel them to try to cut down the person who criticizes, as if they are personally offended by it. For example, I have said as much myself in my posts, but I get downvoted because, ya know, I main Aatrox and I am quite cutting with my remarks, so fuck me right?

These boards are populated by some of the weakest, stupidest, thin skinned sacks of shit I have ever encountered.

league boards are like 4chan and Reddit. If you post here, expect to meet biased people. trust me on this. I've been there where you have ventured. If you post something that does not align with the views of the board, you get downvoted. I literally had to manipulate my words so I could get my point across without getting banned by the boards moderators.

yeah the whole idea of people being boards celebrities really pisses me off, they tend to be smug assholes a lot of the time

What you have described is typical for ANY human group interaction, sadly. Its standard human group dynamic.

Well... they kinda deserve it, don't you think?

They didn't got popular by magic, you know. They made good posts constantely while entertaining people in the process.

Also being noticed by Reds help quite a bit.
