What if Garen Q grounded instead of silencing?

It keeps the thematic "No running away" but reduces his reliance on preventing enemies from fighting back. Allowing enemies to right back would make it possible to put more power in his e or somewhere else.

Just a thought I had, his Q is pretty clearly supposed to give sticking power but it also makes it harder for enemies to hit him back, which isn't as mechanically appropriate (Garen welcomes your return blows with his w and his passive, as long as you stay close) or thematically appropriate (a giant sword to the head would make it pretty hard to run anywhere).

What if Garen Q embedded you in the terrain mesh?

Then Garen would get casually massacred by mages. It just wouldn't work. It wouldn't be any more annoying to assassins, in fact it would be better because they can still use a significant number of their abilities. All this would do is make Garen weaker in lane and invite him to get destroyed by mages or adcs.

Since Garen is supposed to be good against Mage, making him anti mobility and instead of anti ability cast kinda doesn't make sense.

Still wouldn't have the ability to use aftershock which would greatly benefit him.
