Can I Be Honest Here?

Ashe's rework brought forth the most ingenious idea Riot's had in a LONG time: Crits that ARE NOT RANDOM. Critical Strike has been in the game for longer than I can remember. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it introduced in Season 2?)

With Ashe's rework, we saw a way to rebalance crits and not just have them be purely RNG: Each autoattack leaves a little mark of some kind (With Ashe, it's her slow) for a couple seconds. Subsequent AAs on the marked target deal extra damage and refresh the mark. THIS IS BRILLIANT, RIOT! PLEASE, THIS is the way to fix ADCs, IMHO.

Right now, ADCs are nothing more than gamblers, all built around the principle of that 20% chance to do 2.5x after a 3800g item., and then attempting to stack those odds more in your favor. Let's be real: There's NOTHING satisfying about killing someone because you got a crit. You killed them out of pure RNG. In the heat of the moment, sure, it might feel really good IF IT WAS CLUTCH. If it wasn't clutch, you're like "Oh, I out-RNGed them." and when they kill you with a crit, you don't go "They outplayed me so hard," you instead go "RNG: Only in LoL." By the way, yes, I realize there are items in other MOBAs like Dota 2 that have RNG-reliant crits attached to them. However, Dota 2 balances it by making crit chance a UNIQUE PASSIVE that you can only benefit from one source, so you can't stack Daedalus and get 100% crit with 800%+ crit damage, you get 20% with 200% damage and the only benefit to stacking said Daed is the massive damage that it grants, but it's SOOOOO expensive that only farm-heavy AoE-hefty Heroes like Ember Spirit and Kunkka can reap the benefits.

Back to my main point: I do think that Critical Strike, as a whole, should probably be given the Ashe treatment. Apply a mark on someone with autos. Subsequent autos from the same person on the target do bonus damage that scales up with the amount of Critical Strike you have. Please, Riot, at least CONSIDER this in the Marksman Rework you have planned. Please? I'd love to see Marksmans get some fair treatment, but not the Mordekaiser treatment. Crit is a fun mechanic and it can happily stay. I'm OK with it. I just want it to not be so aggravating, both for the user and the opponent.

Thank you for reading. I'll attach a poll so you guys can also vote on the issue.

Footnote: If you bring up Randuin's Omen in defense of crits, please note that it reduces Crit damage by only 10%. 10%. That's another 190%-240% that gets through. That's not enough counterbuild to justify Crit in its current state.

i selected other meaning crit is fine. whats the problem.

crit isnt random. you are assured of having whatever crit chance you have. if you ahve 50% crit chance, you arent goign to expect doign 4 aa's without a crit.

You aren't going to EXPECT. Keyword: Expect. Expect = To premeditate a possible outcome as the result.

Randomness is the equivalent of rolling dice: The result is purely luck-based and you're at its mercy. This is why Crit is frustrating: It IS random, totally random. The only thing you can do to affect it is build MORE crit in an attempt to stack the deck more in your favor, but the result is still random regardless. The only way to actually remove randomness from Critical Strikes is to build a total of 100%+ Crit Chance. 5 IEs, 2 PDs + 1 IE + 1 Shiv, 1 Youmuu's + 2 PD + Shiv/1 IE, etc etc. Any combination of 100%+ Crit Chance immediately disregards the rule of thumb that Crit is dumb luck.

but its not altering the effect on overall strategy. the average dps of a adc withc crit is going to be changed by that crit, and you play accordingly. Its like poker...sure the cards are random but your strategy is still the same.

Perosnally on one of my favorite adc mf i prefer to not build any crit at all...i go bt, sorce boots, wits end and bloodthirster. Works just fine. Its a bit less damage than pd/ie builds but a bit mroe tanky and and more utility.

if anything, crit is just bad for the adc. because you might waste damage from overkilling someone.

wits end mf pls make it stop

Kappa? I mean, technically nothing is really random but thats a different story lol.

I think that's a little too in-depth for a LoL GP&B thread discussing if an RNG-central mechanic should exist. There's really no way to tl;dr the bullshit involving randomness, besides that there are an unholy amount of tiny things that can make it TECHNICALLY non-random.

I agree, I hate rng in competitive games. But if they insist on keeping rng at least bring dodge back. Dodging is more fun than critting imo

Dodging is just adding another element of needless RNG. From a Defensive itemization standpoint, Armor Penetration + Crit Chance, AS IT STANDS, is stupidly good. In fact, a Ghostblade alone adds 20 FLAT ARMOR PEN, 15% chance to do 200% damage, 30 AD, 10% CDR, 40% AS, AND 20% Movespeed. ALL IN ONE ITEM FOR THE DISCOUNT PRICE OF 2700g. The strength of this item is a perfect example of how strong Armor Pen and Crit go hand-in-hand.

Armor Pen needs to be looked at (but not gutted YET, not just yet) and Crit needs some love, but both reflect back to Marksmans as a whole and their shaky place in the meta.

I think we need more crit reduction items,or rework the critical strikes to ignore a percentage of armor. Btw thats the reward for ashe for getting 0 mobility, shes suppost to be utilitiy adc, less dmg than average, basicly her ult scales only or AP,her w does 0 dmg late game, shes all left with Auto Attacks. unlike Vayne who got max hp true dmg, mobility and point and click. Sure ashe's perma slow makes her easiest to kite, but if you are beginner and want to learn kiting,i suggest you should start with Kalista, since shes the easiest "Marksman" to kite with

I'm missing the point of your post. I'm not complaining that Marksmans are too hard to kite with. I'm complaining that Critical Strike is an old system that needs a modern facelift, using (as I've said over and over) the Ashe system. It removes the pointless RNG while keeping the damage well in check.

The problem with the way Ashe crits is that it feels very underwhelming. Attacking feels less impactful, and it never feels like you do as much damage as the enemy laner. That's mostly an Ashe thing, she's supposed to be reliant on her Q. A slight tune on the numbers would make the crits do more damage to fit other kits, but I don't think that would really fix the problem of "It feels really bland". Crit is exciting.

I played competitive Pokémon before starting League, crits are something I'm VERY accustomed to. I really have no opinion. I'll just keep bursting with Annie

I just hate outplaying someone and they beat me with a lucky crit.
