Can Someone Explain LP to me?

Ive been hovering in Silver V for a while now, at around 10-20 LP. I typically Lose one and then Win one. So I'd say im right supposed to be, but why is it, im recieving less and less LP each win. I feel like im around those my skill LvL, if not maybe a bit further. (at times a bit behind, but we all have those moments..)

I feel like Riot is trying to keep me boxed in my elo with very little room to succeed. If im consistently at a stale mate with my Rank, why is the game trying to force me to go below and further behind? instead of pitting me up against better players or ranking me up?

I jsut dont understand how I am earning less LP.... for being in the place Im thriving in most. it should be, the longer im in a rank, i should gain more, so i have more opportunities to rank up and test myself against better players, not try to force me down a rank and have to go through what I conquered beforehand AGAIN.

Why am I recieve like 12-13 LP a win, but losing like 18-20.... in one case 22.

If your only gaining 12-13... and losing 18-20 ... then you have really low mmr.

LP you gain is based mostly off mmr. you can go on op.gg and check it.

so it says my MMR is just over 1k, but the average for SV is 1179, im not far from it, but it says i have to improve my play. How do I do taht exactly? without depending on the rest of the team to win? does MMR go up even when i lose as longa s i did "well"?

That is actually alot of mmr difference, and the best way to improve your play.. is from what i noticed having a good kda and farm each game. Much like the mastery points for champs. Im not sure of the exact formula tho.

I have to agree that I don't fully understand the entire MMR affecting LP thing either. As a support main, I'm almost wholly dependent on my team for victory. There's only so much supporting I can do, and it will be mostly ineffective if the team won't follow up and win some fights. It's very frustrating for me to lost game after game, and then win, only to earn peanuts for a win while continuing to lose boatloads for a loss. No wonder queue times are horrendous if supports gain pretty much nothing from ranked without being carried by a premade.

Agreed. I always thought that you should gain/lose LP based on your personal score. Support or not, your LP is at the mercy of your teammates. It doesn't matter what role you're in; you can have a flawless game of 32/0/9 but still lose the game and you would still lose LP. I think that is completely unfair.

The problem with your personal score affecting MMR/LP gains is that people will end up playing for the score and not the win; it doesn't matter how you achieve victory, you just need to get it. Killing one enemy may look good on the stats screen, but getting 3 of them to commit to chasing you for an entire minute while your team pushes for the win is much better.

I can agree to this too

It sounds like your MMR is constantly decreasing. I've noticed that whenever I'm on a losing streak, I lose more LP than I win, but whenever I'm on a winning streak, I win more LP than I lose.

"it should be, the longer im in a rank, i should gain more"

Actually, it shouldn't be this way. The only reasons why you would be in the same division for an extended period of time is because you either don't play ranked that often or you're not winning enough games to climb. If it's the latter, then it's obviously because you're not skilled enough to climb (no intention of being rude here). So why reward someone who isn't skilled enough to climb?

I just want to "get good" I have decent mechanical skill but sometimes im lost on advance game knowledge. I desparately want to get better but I truly dont know how to "get good" other than spamming game after game. "Practice makes perfect" but the definition of insanity is also doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. So how does one Improve?

I think that's the catch-22 - you can't improve unless you're faced with more advanced opponents, and you can't face more advanced opponents unless you improve.

That's only partially true... for example, improving your CSing skills and map awareness is something you can do regardless of opponents' skill level. Ward placement, buying pink wards, knowing when/how to rotate or split push, customizing your itemization for each game... all things that will improve your skills and help you climb.

I would suggest you befriend someone who is better than you and practice with them; whether it's norms or customs. The only way to truly get better in this game is a mixture of knowledge and experience. Maybe do some research on different tactics to use on your favorite champs and then apply what you learned in game. Keep doing it until you have mastered those tactics.

Treat it like this. If you ever have played non-esports tournaments or knows about those, then treat LP as points to accumulate to qualify for a certain tournament ladder.

Treat LP like needed points for regional qualifiers, national qualifiers, etc.

As for how it is calculated, I doubt that Riot would reveal the formula. But Wiki states it is based on the original Elo system.

Your mmr is tanked according to OP.gg

Your winrate is 50%, but you have more defeats than wins.

Tbh, I don't know why you bother playing Elise. Just spam KZ and Annie, you will get Gold in a week if you do.

Elise is jsut my favorite character, but i guess in a brutal system like this you need to paly someone who can "super carry" like kha, i used to destroy with him but since i got tired of playing him i stopped, might as well pick him up again then.

Hey I got bored of playing Nautilus top and jung but I had a 67% win rate with him so I figured shelving him was a bad move. I stopped playing adc because I had sub 50% winrates with all my played marksman.

Gotta stick to what u are good at
