Orianna support is horrible. It's on the same tier as Soraka top. http://www.nerfplz.com/2016/11/2016-best-champions-tier-list-solo.html
Her kit is too mana hungry, the only thing she offers to her laner is a shield and a slight MS buff, she has no hard CC but her ult and she NEEDS the level/gold she gets from midlane in order to scale and stay relevant.
still, aoe hard cc, a passive mr armor buff, a shield, a speed/slow, easy zoning to allow your adc to farm is pretty good, sure she's mana hungry, unless you use her right
Go ahead and try it then there is a reason why she isn't played there at all like ever. No guides for it and its for a reason. Orianna support is just putting your team behind and guts her potential by more than half.
Listen, Orianna is one of my favorite champions and when I was in bronze I also wanted to try and play her support but trust me it is not worth it. If you want to play a mage support you can tell me what aspects you like about oriana and i can give you some decent ones but trying to force Ori bot lane is just trying to make a square fit in a round hole.

Honestly as a Support main, my main question is why Ori? I have no problem with off meta picks, but I usually expect some theory behind those picks, not just the amount of CC, but what does it offer that is special for the support role. and how useful that thing actually is.
For example way back before shen got his mini rework. I tried picking him up as a support, and I did so for a Number of reasons. Partially I was interested in a support that wasn't mana reliant. His old Q gave sustain to anyone attacking the marked target, which gave him decent if unusual sustain for his ADC. And his E was a generic pick tool similar to a thresh hook or a leona E. But any support could have sustain and a pick tool, what made shen a good addition to the team as the support? Well his ult, at the time, his ult would make him the only support with global pressure. Now how did that fair in performance? Well a support shen ulting isn't as useful as one with full xp and full gold worths of items, But combinding your global pressure with that of your top laner or even your mid lane, did wonders for the team comp.
The funny thing about that experiment, after a couple of weeks, Riot decided to give shen a little bump, and all of a sudden, he was a LCS support pick. Though he lost a bit of that supportive edge with the rework, He lost the sustain, Though his new W could work in the duo lane, it was difficult to synchronize it with your ADC because of it's short duration. And since Tahm got brought into the mix, Shen lost the uniqueness of that global pressure.
As for Oriana, I don't see anything in her kit that would add anything to the supportive role, that would serve a unique function. As such, there's no reason to pick her over a traditional support. And the duality supports like Karma or Lulu, have even more utility paired with their kits, so I wouldn't pick Ori over them. Ori is very much on the Damage end of the utility mage, so she needs that level of AP that you just can't get playing support.
as a support main I'm always trying to break meta because the repetition gets old, so I understand the want to try Orianna. Contrary to what this guy is telling you, it can work fine, and well if played correctly (in your elo). You can even use this to carry yourself out of low elo, though I wouldn't recommend playing it after Gold 1 unless you're very confident on it cause its easily countered. I personally played Elise/Maokai support through to Gold 2 on my smurf, (Ignite, TLords and mobis, ez game ez life).
Anyway, I would recommend:

Okay, you didn't ask for people's opinions on whether Orianna support was good or bad. However, I will say it's mediocre at best due to lack of hard cc and high mana costs, but it's definitely not the worst support pick. With that being said...

OR
would be first priority — no questions asked. I cannot express how important it is for a support to provide vision for their team. I prefer the first option due to extra AP and the lil' ghosties.
BUT as SOON AS you get
, buy
. Helps with some of your early mana issues. After you're done building your support item, build the chalice into
immediately.
Then, buy
.
After this, I personally like to build Orianna as if I were taking her mid, because, honestly, she's kind of a powerhouse for a control mage. I think it's best to embrace that. Don't overlook it.
So,
is good for more slows in case you want to catch up to an enemy or peel even more effectively for your adc. If I were to need armor, I'd buy
. If I needed even more MR, I'd buy
. If you need magic penetration, I personally would take
over
due to the extra health it gives you and the extra damage dealt over time to movement impaired units.
If you find that your lane is snowballing, and you want to go for kind of a "troll" build, building
is pretty fun on Orianna, because her autoattacks already scale with her AP.
If you find you're in a super long game, and you're needing a little extra oomph, you can always sell your
, replace it with
, and buy
.
EDIT: O, lord. I forgot boots.
are best. At end game, if you find you're at 40% (or 45%) CDR without your boots, it's best to switch them out for
.
With your choice of boots, I'd suggest;

Aaaand thats why orianna support can't work. You can't just build half your items about your shield and the other about your damage. You won't be usefull at either of them.
And if you invest all in shield, you are useless because all you have is a single target shield that is more about repositioning the ball than actualy benefiting allies, and if you invest in damage you will be much more useless than if you play mid lane and will take twice the time to get where you want to get.
Didn't look at the stats huh? That's about max cooldown reduction while having plenty of mana regeneration, and a decent chunk of ability power; orianna relies more on the positioning of her ball than her allies, having the capacity to spam would allow her to frequently popup multiple enemies while changing team speeds. Not focusing solely on her shield, that's why the crucible is there, so she can save her ally while attacking if need be.
Crudible is totaly useless, just an active for an item slot
Your build gives about 350 AP, wich is laughable considering Orianna is an actualy balanced champion and her damage is good to average when she goes full AP and reaches about 700AP
ardent sensor is useless since her shield isn't spammable and doesn't come with any offensive buff like Lulu or Janna
Rabadon and Void staff are supposed to be there for damage but she won't deal any since the only other AP item she has are censer and eye of the watcher
Plus, the time to get rabadon would be just horribly long with only eye of the watcher as a source of income and the low efficiency of Orianna support.
As i said and I will say it again, there is a reason she isn't played support. Just like Ahri, Gangplank or Vi, she is a horrible support but is a huge benefit to her team when played in the right role.
That I agree with, I hate having active items because I don't like using my computer as a piano; the archangel's staff or grail would would replacements.
Why do you think void staff is there? Won't deal damage? She's not healing the enemies you know.
It's spammable with low enough cooldowns; just save it for when you engage, duh.
He asked for support, not carry.
More like most people are too inflexible enough to try making it work; seen plenty like you over the years, quiting raging and rambling if forced to play with unconventional teams.
You're thinking about this all wrong. Orianna doesn't need to go bot as the support, she does just fine in mid lane. The secret is that she transitions into a support during team fights! You don't need to do anything special, just build as much AP and CDR as you can.
In teamfights you'll ideally keep the ball on your diver (Examples: Lee, Maokai, Jax). When your E comes off cooldown fire off a QWE combo so that the ball hits enemies on the way out and in. Peel for your carries, or prevent enemies from escaping them with a QRW combo! In the meantime, continue to hit whoever is closest with your auto attacks. An Orianna with two stacks and a Nashor's Tooth will hit for 85 + 35% AP magic damage per auto at lv 18.
Orianna is ideally used in a team with a heavy fighter or juggernaut, preferably with a Taric support since he synergies with her so well. A Yi is a deadly but squishy creature. A Yi with +90 armor, +30 magic resist, and tons of shields is much less fragile, but still just as deadly if not even more so!
Always get Rylais. Get a tear early but don't finish it. Have a good day c:
