I think it'd be neat if all the champs could be unlocked in practice mode

I'm currently going through the dilemma of which champs I like and which ones I don't(due to me playing many random games or off meta for fun i have lost all my skill) but I don't own every champion and i think i'd be nice to be able to test out champions in practice mode.

Plus, if they made every skin available in practice mode, it would just be icing on the cake.

thats asking too much. but unlocking every character is reasonable

Maximus Manius6 votes

I don't see how it would be asking too much. We would be able to test the skins before we bought them to decide if they are worth spending our money on. We wouldn't be playing games using them, they would just be an easy way to see which skin we want without paying first and we get first hand experience playing with them rather having to go to skinspotlights or other various youtube channels to see the skin in action. We would get to personally test the fluency of the skin to see how we like the animations.

That's what youtube is for. Literally. Champ Skin Spotlight. Skin Comparison.

LegacyDAP2 votes

Yeah, you don't need to try the skin in game to see if you like it. However, you do need to try a champion to get a feel and see if you like them. Watching somebody play them (from experience) isn't enough to determine if I like the champ or not.

øHaruø2 votes

Who's talking about champions? The guy above me was talking about skins.

I'm seeing a disconnect here.

I think the issues is that a 3rd party not owned by Riot Games has to display skins when Riot themselves could and should have done so themselves. In fact, many splasharts, while nice, don't properly show what you get. The best example is Academy Ekkko, where the splash displays Ekko with green energy instead of his usual blue, but remains blue in game.

You can watch Skin Spotlights on Youtube, but you shouldn't HAVE to in order to properly view Riot's content.

Personally, I find a better feel for my enjoyment of a skin through playing with the skin, not just watching someone else use it. For instance, when I first saw the Yasuo and Riven skins, I fell in love with the Riven skin thinking I would hate the Yasuo skin. Then when I bought the Yasuo skin and testing it out in game, I loved the smoothness of the abilities and the feel of when you hit an enemy. I easily find it so much more enjoyable to play a skin to find out how i feel about it then going on youtube to watch someone else use it.

Example A: I got the Legendary Twisted Fate skin back when I mained Twisted Fate. A solid 15 bucks. Only to get in a game to find out it's not worth the money at all. It's more like a 520 rp skin. It has no changed to animations, and literally nothing looks different (besides the outfit). If I can test a skin before I get it I can avoid situations like that or decide for myself if I like playing the game with them.

Heroes of thje storm. Where u can practice any champ and any skin at any given time.

the weeaboo4 votes

No. Not literally.

You can't test the smoothness of a skin with Skin Spotlights. I definitely wouldn't have PROJECT: Yasuo right now if I was able to tell how smooth it was

Not everyone has access to PBE.

øHaruø1 votes

Fair enough.

the weeaboo1 votes

Why not? In Dota theres a practice mode where you have all the items unlocked to see what they look like.

ChemicalBuster1 votes

In another moba, that's what they did. It's pretty good way to check it out yourself even though they too do spotlights on them.

Nickssaa1 votes

Both Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm has every character and skin available in their practice modes.

Another good moba "SMITE" has a practice tool and lets you play any champ in it and it felt really good bc I could try out a champ before I buy it. I was always really satisfied with who I bought because I got to test their ranges, combos, builds, wave clear, all kinds of stuff. League could learn a lot from SMITE. Like, they also let you grab your summoner spells from the shop and I don't think you can change em but it's harder to get the wrong ones.

Some people wait to see how the game is going before they get one of their summs. For example, you don't use teleport to go to lane the 1st time, thats a waste so top laners will grab 1 summ and when they back for the 1st time they'll decide if they need teleport.

I love how suggestions like this get downvoted because of the rabid RIot fanboys on these forums think ideas like this are a threat to Riots bottom line. /eyeroll

yay nibbers2 votes

Heroes of the Storm does it too. They have a tiny map for trying out heroes (and even skins!) you don't own similar to the practice tool we have now (except before us and also better).

I remember opening this thread a while ago and got downvoted to oblivion because:

Oh hey I am on a 2 week holiday and cannot play LoL.

50000000000000003 votes

Which is technically true, but not very useful when the champion you want doesn't show up for like 2 months or more

Cavesloth4 votes

2 months? Try 6 or more sometimes depending on the champ. Yeah theres 130 something champs so it should only take 13 weeks, but they go in an exact pattern, some champs are free pretty often while others are almost never free due to low popularity (urgot cough cough) I was on a "try every champ at least once" kick and it took me about 8 months to complete (granted it was that long because i missed a few when they were free, but you get the idea).

This is probably what is causing the dilemma of Multi-player practice mode, as it essentially becomes PBE mode with both.

øHaruø1 votes

Except PBE's main focus is to test bugs.

Next we'll be asking for IP gains.

Bârd3 votes

I don't think it would hurt anyone's feelings if they just made all champions free.

They're already doing it with runes, so it's not like it's completely out of the question.

Cavesloth3 votes

Some other mobas do this and just make money on the skins, but don't expect riot to this they aren't that nice.

Hello I am Bird2 votes

The difference is that Runes can be bought with IP ONLY Meaning that the only way for Riot to make profit is if someone bought an IP boost, which most people would just go for about anything else instead. Champions, however, can be bought with RP, meaning Riot can make a profit off of them I was stupid enough to buy Shaco for 10 dollars (I used one of my refund tokens and got dragonslayer pantheon instead)

Bârd1 votes

Runes can only be bought with IP, but rune PAGES could be (and often were) bought with RP.

People only buy champions once or twice before realizing "wow that's a waste". For me it was Sona and Viktor, and yeah it was really stupid.

I'd hazard to say they'd increase their profits by doing this. Although they lose out on revenue from people buying champions, they gain revenue from people buying skins they previously wanted, but couldn't because they were unwilling to buy champions with RP.

SolarisCorvus2 votes

Kinda like smite jungle practice where every god is available.

Almighty2 votes

This will go against Riot's strategy to get new players addicted to the game.

I mean, imagine you're a brand new player who has ZERO experience with League. You discover Practice tool has all champions unlocked. You try every one of them out in a matter of days. You get bored of the game and uninstall.

The system is designed this way so that players can grind their way into unlocking the champions. That way, they become addicted, and when they're addicted enough, they'll start spending money on the game. Which is exactly what Riot wants.

So, as much as i'd want every champion avalible in Practice tool, i'm afraid marketing tactics will not allow for that to happen.

Almighty.

the weeaboo2 votes

DOTA 2 has all heroes unlocked and I put 1.3k hours in. You either like the game and you play it or you find it boring and drop it after a couple days. You can't possibly play every champ in a couple days and say "Oh well I played them guess I'm done playing that champ forever". Then why would people main champs?

If anything it's more frustrating for new players. I remember buying a bunch of champs with RP when I was a noob because I was making 50 IP a game in Co-op vs. AI, and saw to get any of the cool new champs i'd need to play literally 120 fucking games. For one champ. That's retarded. You can only play so many games of Annie before you get bored.

Hello I am Bird2 votes

To be fair, from what I've heard DOTA 2 relies a LOT more on counterpicks than League does.

the weeaboo1 votes

I wouldn't say that at all. While certain picks are rather effective, as a whole Dota is way more diverse in the way it can be played, definitely much more counter-building going on.

sobi9992 votes

I have wasted so much IP on champs which i only played for 1-2 games.

GreenCyborgDude1 votes

Wish I had ip to buy some champs but I only got like 1080 ip so I cant really buy the champs I want until I just farm it up

the weeaboo1 votes

Literally same. I spent 6300 IP on Kled. Do I ever play him? No. No I don't.

Fuh Queue1 votes

HOTS allows you to have a test feature on every hero before you buy it. That would work as well.

KoKoboto1 votes

Yeah I think it'd be neat if Riot really updated practice tool so it's kinda like Dota2 where you can go into training but also queue up for games.

I also think it'd be neat if Rito reverted the Quinn rework.

iToadallyAwesome1 votes

This would be awesome, like I don't want to save up for a champ that I won't like to play. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

StarGuardianWeeb1 votes

I want this and also want them to let you get chests off Free to Play S ranks. If I did amazing my first or second time with a champ I never owned or practiced why shouldnt i get a reward? I played MF free last week, nailed an S+ and then had to be salty and grumble as i spent the ip to buy her and pray I do it again (havent yet)

The Soulforged1 votes

Why not. I just got every champ last week though, so it wouldn't affect me.

Mr Vader1 votes

wait what?

Synnx71 votes

Like every other moba does? "Nah, lets just say NO, we are riot and we are very different. Plus, not so sure if we can do this without destroying the game "
