They've Removed Fervor

Håppy··1 votes·1,061 views

By that I mean, they haven't just removed the keystone Fervor of Battle. "Press the Attack" used to be, roughly, the same thing - only stacking infinitely. I guess they decided not to keep that, because that's nowhere to be found now. Which is quite honestly really upsetting. There's been sort-of a replacement for every keystone (DFT excluded), and they've knocked another one off.

EDIT; so I realize I didn't actually explain why this is bad. A lot of autoattack-focused champions have been intentionally balanced with their abuse of Fervor of Battle in mind - A removal of ALL TRAITS of this, is going to leave those champions hilariously weak. Remember the Sejuani treatment? Yeah, it doesn't look like the champions are getting reimbursed for their shortcomings with the removal of masteries, just the removal of runes.

They did say all keystones were subject to change.

Keep in mind if a champ is balanced around fervor, they will get compensated down the road

Håppy1 votes

Yeah, but.. if you're gonna change any, why not change one of the mage ones that all do the same thing just a little bit different, and make some DoT replacement? Why take something that many champions have been completely balanced around and remove it? It's just gonna trash those champs, and we very well know how good Riot is at jumping on something that's weak unless it's featured in the LCS

Sp33d Zer02 votes

Maybe because infinite stacking AD on someone like kalista and Lucian is impossible to balance.

Håppy1 votes

It may not have a cap, but that doesn't mean they'll get infinite AD. It halves (or quarters.. can't remember) upon switching targets, and fights won't last long enough to go above 100 extra AD, which isn't far above what Fervor would give previously. Not to mention each stack gave less AD.

64 vs 100 is a huge difference

Im not sure if I understand.

They completely removed press the attack?

Håppy1 votes

It's still called "Press the Attack", but it now does something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. Guess what? It's a 3-hit passive that increases damage dealt to them. Y'know that current mastery, the uh... expose weakness, the 2nd thing you can get in the offensive skill tree? Yeah that's now one of the CREME DE LA CREME runes, lol.

Better Jungler1 votes

are they keeping lethal tempo?

Håppy1 votes

Yeah, they've kept Lethal Tempo, but it has an entirely different focus (on-hit). Don't let Vandiril's videos fool you, there's a reason why he's Jinx in every single one, or has only built attack speed + guinsoos on on-hit champs. It's very very bad on any other build. Even Master Yi doesn't do well with Lethal Tempo.. And you'd think he'd be the poster child for it. Even Jax doesn't do well with Lethal Tempo.

Better Jungler1 votes

not sure who valendril is.

That being said.. You need to calm down:)

They have said (in red text) that we shouldnt get attached to anything. When the runes changeover they will be adjusted as the games go on. If somethings too strong, theyll weaken it. If its too weak, theyll strengthen it. If it doesnt fit, they will change it, If they need to theyll remove it. Theres no reason to get so worked up right now, especially when everythings going to change anyways.

They arent going to sabotage their own game just because they feel like it:P They have hundreds of people working on that, and some dude on the boards isnt going to have a better insight than the teams actually creating it.

No disrespect intended.

Håppy1 votes

I could throw up facts about how most of the balance team is low elo and such, but I know it won't make a difference. When you stake a claim like that, there's not much changing your mind'll be doing.

It's hard for me to calm down, honestly. I haven't had a single PBE game that I haven't left tilted off the face of the earth, and this includes custom games of only bots and me, or even practice games of only me. A majority of this is just change for the sake of change, something to mix it up all wacky-like and keep LCS exciting every year, yeah!!! It sucks. A lot of champions that used to be fun, feel terrible to play now. Nothing's intrinsically changed about the champion themselves, just the accessories that come along with them. The type of damage you're doing, or how you're doing it. It is.. literally two days, as of now (monday november 6th, 3:15am) before the preseason patch is supposed to go live. This is pretty finalized for shipping, and after that no real massive changes are going to be made so that people have time to adjust. They aren't going to throw a curveball in halfway through preseason, not when Worlds starts kicking up almost immediately as soon as the season properly starts. This is.. how things are, it looks like. And how things are really isn't favorable to champions that want to do more than another variation of the three-hit passive or lethal tempo. Warlord's Bloodlust is still there so I don't feel the need to really comment on that.

Better Jungler1 votes

Thats not a fact. the majority of the balance team is diamond +. thats a shitty boards rumor for people that complain about EVERYTHING.

Judging from how much you're tilting about this temporary change... I'm not surprised you're tilting off pbe games.

Are you new to pbe? Its the least balanced part of the entire game because thats where the changes START.

EDIT: I just read the rest of your comment.

Worlds starts in september. Preseason is the place where they throw ALL the curveballs to prepare for regular season.

Dude your "facts" are really really bad. You're just making shit up to make you seem more reasonable..

Håppy1 votes

just to link a bunch of accounts from people on the Live Gameplay team who are fairly highly rated

Outliers aren't the example, similarly you wouldn't use a Challenger player to be the proof that a Bronze flex queue team is good.

I'm not new to PBE, though seeing how I've done nothing but tilt off it since the runes reforged got released, I've stayed well away from it. Had a great lot of fun testing and providing feedback on it throughout the first half or so of 2017, though.

I'll take that mistake, Worlds itself properly starts in September, but the qualifiers and such start almost immediately.

Better Jungler1 votes

Dude.. look at what you're doing.

You're making excuses for everything.

"The balance team is low elo"

Proof the balance team isnt low elo

"Some of the balance team is low elo"

or..

"Worlds starts immediately"

proof worlds starts in september

"K but qualifiers"

And no they dont. The pro teams play on the patch for a few months before they start playing tournaments. The first one (at least in our country of NA) is usually MSI. And thats in May. Qualifiers for league start in september.

Im done talking to you. You mentioned something earlier about "hard to change someones mind."

You're a perfect example of that. You're so tilted that you NEED someone to blame. You just want to be mad at something, and thats fine, but dont spread ignorance like "Worlds starts in january, Preseason doesnt change, Balance team is low elo" when you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. No matter how much proof I give you, you're not ready to change your mind yet.

Good luck with the anger.

They said something along the lines, of that between lethal tempo and the infinite stacking fervor, which one you pick wont come down to preference, but instead with one does more damage.

that is something they didnt want

Håppy1 votes

It's absolutely down to preference, and usefulness on top of that. Someone like Fiora isn't going to want Lethal Tempo, that's ridiculous. She doesn't care about attack speed. But at the same time, she also doesn't care about that new Press the Attack, either. Lethal Tempo is barely even actually good unless you invest hilariously in to attack speed. Why not take that one away, instead of the Fervor of Battle that has a general use? Right, because they really wanted to jerk off the old Kog'Maw attack speed cap breaker. It's just going to be another Phantom Hit. "It used to be gated to this one thing that only a few could abuse and it was really good because of that, but that was hard to balance. Now, we've just gutted it and made it available to EVERYONE! As always, it'll only be actually useful on like 3 people, and they can get it no problem, but haha don't complain, if it's so good why aren't you using it!"

Cocho1 votes

fiora will do fine with the keystone that replaces fervor. Alot of zoning comes from that. Grasp was also meta on her at a point.

lethal tempo is going to be good on more people than just kog. It gives alot of attack speed.

I think you're over-reacting. Fighters that use fervor now have plenty of great choices, while alot of adcs atm dont even take fervor. If kog wants to take lethal tempo, he's giving up sustain in lane, his laning phase isnt that strong on top of that.

Being down to preference and usefulness at the same time doesn't make sense. It is either useful or not. You wouldn't prefer something that isn't useful.

Håppy1 votes

Fiora is going to hurt, and noticeably suffer a lot of her damage output with the removal of upwards of 80 attack damage overnight. Similar to how she suffered a lot with the triple-threat of Bramble Vest + Urgot + Duelist's Dance nerfs (which, mind you, I called a patch ahead of time and similarly got told I was overreacting.) As are a lot of the champions that took Fervor. It's striking a Bloodthirster worth of damage off their kit in exchange for.. a mastery they'd take already if they planned to teamfight, so it's just a net loss all around.

If Kog wants to take lethal tempo, he's giving up sustain in lane, but Kog is focused on lategame anyways and so he'll just play safe regardless and benefit in the long run.

Yeah, preference and usefulness at the same time do make sense, they're just useful in different ways. Take Battle Trance and Bounty Hunter, for example. Both are useful, but in different ways. Bounty Hunter is useful for champions that expect to get kills (Rengar, ADCs) and Battle Trance is for champions that don't expect to get kills, but expect to be in prolonged trades or duels to the death. But at the end of the day, it's a matter of preference, because both have the same end result - dealing 5% increased damage - they just have different ways of getting there.

Who are you talking about? I can't see those auto attack-focused champions you're talking about. Even tho Pres the attack is still great. And by the way Pre-season is here to balance things out. Is it hard to understand? if it weren't for balance we would have S8 just right now. But like all year you have two months to adapt and so Riot can balance stuff.

Jax, Master Yi, Fiora, Irelia, Xin Zhao, Ezreal, Lucian, Kalista, Xayah, Vayne, Sivir

And those are just the ones I can list off the top of my head. Champions that have synergies or ratios gutted to adjust for the addition that Fervor of Battle gives. Don't tell me that Jax, Yi or Irelia will do well with Lethal Tempo, Yi's been atrocious with it all PBE preseason, Jax needs to walk with his opponents and so the actual use of over-capped attack speed diminishes severely, and Irelia doesn't get enough attack speed items to get any real benefit out of Tempo. Certain ADCs will be good with it (I can see Ashe really getting some benefit out of it, POSSIBLY Vayne but her tumble would affect the use of it as per usual, Lucian would only want to ult during Tempo otherwise his ability rotation+passive nullifies that boy, and Sivir will want the renamed Bloodlust now).

PBE is meant to help shape the new system and catch bugs, preseason is to buff out the rough spots and help people get adjusted. Preseason isn't where huge changes are made like completely changing a key rune. Even when they changed Warlord's Bloodlust halfway through a season, it does essentially the same thing, just on an Energized system instead. What's shipping out, is probably what's being kept.. and no, the current Press the Attack is awful. It's a three-hit-proc temporary version of Expose Weakness which is such a minor addition that it's the second thing you can get in the offensive mastery tree. I played a whole custom game using it, as a jungler, and y'know what? By the end of the game, the total damage it offered was.. 3k extra overall damage. Spread out among 5 champions, throughout the entire 30 minute game, and that's not guaranteeing kills. That's hilarious. Veigar will do more damage than that in a single ability rotation (or ult). And again, that's not some gamechanging thing, because IT'S ALREADY BEEN IN THE GAME. Expose Weakness. Only, not gated behind a three-hit passive, and it's clearly not worth a TOP TIER rune slot seeing how it's been in the game forever as a basic mastery.

Except maybe Lucian, none of the one who quoted have been adjust because of Fervor. Furthermore when too many champions are going borderline OP because of a keystone it's the keystone that get nerfed.

Yi's been atrocious with it all PBE preseason

He's been OP with it. Just like some Marksmen. This is why they put this keystone on a cooldown so it won't be almost constantly up.

Jax needs to walk with his opponents and so the actual use of over-capped attack speed diminishes severely, and Irelia doesn't get enough attack speed items to get any real benefit out of Tempo.

The fact that Lethal Tempo goes over the cap is a big plus. But you can still make use of it for both of them. They're great duelist, both builds Trinity Force so they can stick easier to a target and got CC to help them do that. So yes they can use Lethal Tempo if they want to.

PBE is meant to help shape the new system and catch bugs, preseason is to buff out the rough spots and help people get adjusted.

PBE doesn't shape much. That's why Galio or Janna went live as they were. Because Riot needs larger data to properly know what they're going to do. Catch bugs is definitely the main things about PBE, balancing is less important (I didn't say it wasn't important at all) but partial data of a community who needs to play on higher pings isn't as useful as a 10 Regions trying out the new changes.

Preseason isn't where huge changes are made like completely changing a key rune.

Actually... Yes this is the time where huge changes can be made. This is why we are receiving the new system because it's a huge change. And Yes they can completely change a rune during pre-season. Except maybe it's the very last patch before the new season. They're two times where huge changes can come: Pre-season and Midseason. That's it.

I played a whole custom game using it, as a jungler, and y'know what? By the end of the game, the total damage it offered was.. 3k extra overall damage. Spread out among 5 champions, throughout the entire 30 minute game, and that's not guaranteeing kills.

Who did you play? Who were you against? That can change a lot. Specially when you need to land 3 consecutive auto attacks. Obviously if you went for any caster jungler it will be harder to do. How do you know it was only 3k offered in total?

IT'S ALREADY BEEN IN THE GAME. Expose Weakness. Only, not gated behind a three-hit passive, and it's clearly not worth a TOP TIER rune slot seeing how it's been in the game forever as a basic mastery.

Not really. if you want to compare it to something try Vladimir. 10% more dmg from all sources on his R. And that's huge by itself. The only thing I found poor with this mastery it's the fact that's it's gated to Basic Attacks.
