Kass players, how do you lane against a Zed?

Zed outranges Kass while being manaless, and if he happens to land his combo pre your 6, half of your hp is gone. He can effectively zone you from farming at level 3. Assume both side has no help from jg.

If you go against Zed as Kassadin, don't panic. I usually start with item 1082 + item 2031 because I am used to the matchup but if you feel really threatned start item 1029 + 4 item 2003 .

Pre-6 (1-5 levels):

During level 1 you can trade him with your Q while avoiding his Q and win the trades since your Q is easier to land (be careful with his Q range though) Also try to avoid the lane from reaching your tower until you reach level 2.
Level 2 vary. Start playing more passive until you see what ability he upgraded. If he has Q+E, keep harassing him with Q while farming. If his E is down because he uses it to push and he makes the mistake to get near you too much, go for AA+W and if you have Q, you could even proc Elect (in case you have it). If he has Q+W, be careful and keep playing passive because you can receive heavy damage and get in a bad situation if the Zed uses his combo and proc Electrocute.
Level 3 to 5: Play passive and only farming minions with Q while avoiding his W+Q. Sometimes you will be forced to lose minions if you don't want to take heavy damage. It's a price to pay because if you let Zed do free damage, once he gets to level 6, you may be in problems and he could kill you easily.

First back: Depending on how agressive and how skilled the Zed player was, you can 2 to things.

First option (Safest option): Go directly for , buying in this order: first , then , etc. It is not too late to build as your second full item. Sometimes this is the right option to go if the Zed player is really good and you don't want to give him free gold. The rest of the build is up to you.
Second option: (Risky but Rewarding option) If you feel like you could handle that Zed player (playing passive and avoiding damage) go for first item and after you finish it, rush inmediately and eventually complete . The rest of the build is up to you.

Zed Level 6: If you don't have item 2420 ,play passive and if you do, play passive. Respect Zed's level 6 as he becomes really strong and more threatening. Until you have Zhonya's keep distances.

How to punish him:

After you have Zhonya's and see him making mistakes or spaming abilities, don't be afraid to punish him but be aware of the enemy jungler, don't be caught in a bait.
Be aware if he uses either W or Q and also watch for his energy. Punish him for the wrong usage of the three mentioned above.

If you didn't give him too much free gold, you should be able to kill him easier later on and you will outscale him. I hope you can deal better with him in your next games while playing as Kassadin. Good Luck.
