Question, isn't the inherent disadvantage of ranged top laners is that they fall off late game in terms of engage?

More specifically, if you played a bruiser or tank top, your damage would fall off late game, but you would still be useful because of your CC and damage soaking. Therefore you can force engages.

Most ranged top laners are squishy. Their damage may or may not fall off depending on how well they do, but if their damage falls off they will never be useful late unless they splitpush because they will be blown up before they can do much damage, and the team would have no engage. A forced engage with CC would destroy them.

I feel your pain. I play melees top as well. I have found that your chances of winning are much higher when you focus on farm with the intent of out-scaling/being useful in the mid/late game. If the ranged champs aren't fed then they don't have as much of an impact as they had hoped for.

and his melee mode is just superior to regular melee champs

Literally one month ago noone barely even played Jayce,cuz of worlds he's strong and is finally being played...wait what?

Giving a poke champion a nuke and a knockback on a single ability seems like a recipe for success. God knows how Riot comes up with such great champ designs. Clearly the solution is to add plants to the jungle which fuck melees, because Riot's still on the same crack they were taking when they designed Jayce.

This really sucks if you have to blind pick top. If you don't have to blindpick, get a melee with good waveclear and defensive stats that can still build a damage item or two. Jayce waveclear is crap until he has items, so you push him in hard -- not giving him a chance to constantly harass you. Just beware not to stand at his tower while he clears the wave(s) you shoved or you invite jungle ganks.

it's funny because before worlds came around there were no complaints about jayce at all on these forums. suddenly he's played in LCS and it's fotmsuperopopbrokenbanplsnerfpls everywhere.

this patch and any before it, after tiny ass buff or not, anytime i'd see a jayce first pick id play j4 or pantheon into him (my two top mains), sometimes teemo, malphite... pretty much any tank, and completely fucking destroy him. olaf and sion are said to be great counters too.

yes he's a lane bully with a strong laning phase. but he has weaknesses and counters. you're plat 1, and you don't know this by now? stop your crying, and learn to play the game.
