How do you deal with Nasus?

I have played as Nasus very occasionally and against Nasus (quite rare these days). I have been denied my Q farm early, I have denied or killed enemy Nasus early on in lane. But these things sorta bug me about him:

  1. You can poke him down very hard in early levels, but he just uses teleport to come back to lane not only being still the same level as you, but he is full health, has pots, and has an item advantage just minutes into the game. At that point, depending on the matchup, he can literally wither you and mow you down as soon as he teleports into lane. If he can't, he'll just free farm since your damage bounces off his new cloth armor or null mantle. If you are an AA based champ, you will push lane which leads to two:

  2. Lane is always pushed to Nasus because he will never attack a minion unless its a last hit, whereas your champ may have aoe abilities that hit minions, or you end up auto attacking him and drawing minion aggro (pushes the lane). When it pushes lane you are prime target for ganking from mid or jungler. It would be OK if nasus offers nothing in a gank, but his wither pretty much leads to a 100% chance of flash blown and 80% chance of dying. Even worse, it slows AA's. If that's not bad enough, the move slow increases over time so it is very misleading initially - you might think you can just walk away or dodge Lee Sin's Q.

Edit: And if you don't attack Nasus so you don't push lane yeah...that's not really in your best interest

  1. You can deny his early Q farming, but honestly 90% of Nasus' farm comes after the 15 minute mark of the game. If you've denied 30 siphons, that means jack shiet. 30 damage is nothing. Most of the lost stacks are due to the player misjudging his Q to last hit a minion LOL

  2. Now I know most top lane champs use teleport anyway, but Nasus is the best splitpusher in the game. A lot of champ's damage abilities are tied to their displacement CC. If you engage Nasus while he is splitpushing, he will fight back. As soon as you use your CC, he TPs out. If you don't use it, Nasus will just continue killing you. If you have multiple people going for Nasus, you lose your other lane's turrets. Also, he'll never have to decide between farming or grouping...he has TP...

  3. His teamfighting ability is extraordinary. His large aoe ability shreds 40 armor at max rank, which helps his ADC do nearly true damage to anyone but full tanks. His wither, which has 11s cooldown, can be cast again on the same target due to CDR on his recommended items which include SV and FH. If nasus is on the enemy team, it means at any given time in the teamfight someone on my team is withered. So the whole argument of Nasus being kited and not landing any Q...he brings much more than his 1k damage Q to a teamfight.

Early on, harass him. Make him scared to come near minions. If you can manage to not push lane (and remember, with the stat buffs and minion damage he IS much safer), you can deny him Q farm(which will delay his damage) and try and damage him if he comes close. Other than his ult and passive, he has no sustain, so if you can keep him off minions you'll severely weaken him. While his splitpushing is good, unless he went even/ahead in lane his teamfight is mostly a meat shield for the adc, since he is very easily kitable.

Basically, try and kill him early and make him scared to come out. Take your turret, and try to either continue pushing (if enemy team isn't nearby and you are ahead) or kill other lanes to try and win early. If the game does drag on, Nasus will be very good in 1v1s, but still pretty weak in teamfights, which you can use to your advantage.

play vlad. He scales as well as nasus, and he can bully him early as well. He can also harass without pushing too hard. Swain is fun against nasus as well. Basically anyone with strong single target damage and good sustain can bully nasus, and your job that match is to bully nasus

Honestly the best way to handle Nasus is to have range and kiting ability on him. Not only can you keep him from safely farming under turret in lane, but with the right itemization you can kite him infinitely later on.

My personal suggestion: Quinn item 3139

Take the complete opposite champ in that lane imo. You can't play a passive laner against nasus unless you are getting CONSTANT ganks from jungle, or he gets free farm on his Q's and you won't poke him hard enough. Try playing Lee Sin or another uber strong early-game dueler against him who can explode him at level 3 and poke solidly pre-3. He's got a % execution damaging move with his Q, and he's just absurdly strong all around early-game so it should be plenty strong enough to stomp nasus and deny him his early-game farm that he needs. You HAVE To out-burst his sustain early-game imo. Also try to get help from jungler if you can, ward well, and Aggro Nasus as much as possible and focus him instead of minions, but grab minions when he retreats back or you ware waiting for an opening.

I treat Nasus the way he looks: like a zombie.

Avoid his easy to avoid spam snare, don't fight him when he transforms and mock him as his speed is slow.

You might not be able to kill him easy, but you'd have to be sleeping to get caught by him.

95% of nasus players either:

a. can't play nasus right and take too much free harass, getting forced out of the lane repeatedly b. dont have the map awareness and game knowledge to splitpush properly

this results in nasus being a detriment to his team.

honestly though, there are so many counters to nasus, it's just that people refuse to play them because this game revolves around the 'play what I want where I want' mentality of solo que.

You don't. I can't think of any champion that can win lane against me as Nasus ( Except Rumble, Teemo and Riven, but I will still be able to farm and outscale them )
