Thornmail

item 3075 has always been an item that is great to use against AD Carries, both melee and ranged. Before it used to rebound damage based on how much the opponent was dishing out, making these champions either build lifesteal or not litter the tank with auto attacks. The counter-play to item 3075 was either the APC or item 3072 . Now i'm all for changes that take away forcing X champion to build X, but the item 3075 we have right now, is targetting a lot more than just ADC's. Now whenever you basic attack someone with thornmail, you get Grievous wounds, which is 40% less healing PLUS the rebounded damage. So now instead of effecting the AD carries, item 3075 now effects

Aatrox AkaliChogath Camille Darius DrMundo Ekko Fiora Gangplank Illaoi Irelia Jax Kayle Nasus Olaf RenektonSwain Trundle Tryndamere Vladimir Warwick Volibear XinZhao Yasuo and others. Most of these champions rely on some form of healing to lane properly, but if you're any of these champions: Galio Garen Gnar JarvanIV Kled Malphite Maokai Ornn RammusNautilus Singed TahmKench Yorick who benefit from not only the 80 armor, heal reduction, attack speed reduction, AND 250hp, while primarly relying on shields or sheer tankiness, you at the very least if not win the lane, you'll be unkillable solo if you rush this item, which i see a large amount of them doing when against heal reliant laners. So why is it that item 3075 , instead of being an anti-adc item, it's now just an anti-any-champion-with-a-decent-amount-of-reliability-on-healing item, because while yes it still effects ADC's, it now promotes NOT building lifesteal, and just going full crit, because the rebound damage is basically non-existant now anyway, and if it were to do anything, it would just be brushed off by Lulu Janna item 3504 ?

Did you forget that the current rebound damage is next to nil? And that riot thought it was a good idea to give it the cold steel passive, making it a self defeating item. Some of the champions you listed can still fight without needing to auto-attack, just takes a bit more management.

I understand your concept, but to put it into perspective, bramble/thornmail is the same concept as hexdrinker/maw. With hex/maw, you trade off the assassination capabilities of lethality and such with stats and a passive to do better against your lane opponent. Where a toplaner may want to rush, say, Righteous Glory for grouping and initiation power, they instead trade off the extra stats and passive to survive against their lane opponent. It's not often a toplaner will straight up rush Thornmail just like a mid lane assassin won't rush a maw straight up, even if they do just build bramble vest or hexdrinker. What they miss out on if they do is significant enough to balance it out. Just because the item's purpose has shifted doesn't mean it doesn't have a place in the game anymore.
