Why Pick Mundo Anymore?

Anymore, it seems that most people don't even play tanks in the top lane or jungle, but when they do there are much better picks than. People would much rather play something like or . The reason being is that all of these champions can still do damage when building full tank, all have multiple wave clears, and have more than one soft cc like Mundo. I just do not see the purpose in playing anymore, besides the fact that I like him for his character.

The main problem with Mundo is that he relies completely on his cleavers for almost everything. In the early game, most top laners outdamage him and he is too squishy to effectively trade with them. Because of this Mundo relies on his Cleaver to kite/peel/poke, and to safely farm. His other abilities are not as powerful or necessary to his kit, especially in the early game. The hp cost on his W makes it so it is barely usable until he gets a , which is problematic since that is his only waveclear. His ult and passive is Riot's apology for giving him such a bad early game, by giving him a crap ton of health regen.

These are just my opinions and experiences of playing Mundo, and I find him overally to be lackluster compared to other tanks. If you want a good peeling tank then choose somebody like or . If you want a good initiator then there is or . If you want a good body blocker/protector then choose somebody like or . With all of that said, where does fit? I feel like his kit is too out of date, and he needs a rework to be worth picking over any of the tanks above.

Tldr: Mundo is not as viable anymore as nearly any other tank in the game, because most tanks are much better peelers, body blockers/protectors, or initiators. BTW I hate how champ and item icons mess up the format in my paragraphs.
