Is Mordekaiser "On the Radar"

With the news of multiple VU's and champion updates, it seems they are giving a lot of love in the right places. However, I haven't seen anybody talk about Mordekaiser . His model is too short, his mace is nearly as big as his body, he has pizza feet, and his ability visuals are hella old. I'm just saying, this guy needs some love visually, almost as much as taric.

*** Ideas for what a visually updated Mordekaiser could look like:**

On deviant art I found this beauty by Concept art house, it is too futuristic but is a good model of what mord could look like with a vu. http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/134/5/1/519d07213de873bd653cc60dd189486d-d65a8e3.jpg

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/roszkOous58/maxresdefault.jpg This is a neat concept (that is not mine) of what he could look like.

Also, since it seems that Mordekaiser is based off Lord Sauron from Lord of the Rings, why not take even more influence from it http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/353/3/6/sauron_by_ekonk-d6yj4sr.jpg

*** He is too damn short:**

http://i.imgur.com/YQMrPBp.png This picture shows what the height of all of these champs are supposed to be in game, and mordekaiser in game is actually shorter than most.

*** With all of this aside, let's look at his current lore:**

"Mordekaiser is a** being of pure, living agony on a mysterious dread quest**. It is said that he was the first of the undead, existing before the Shadow Isles were a whispered threat. His true name and past lost to history, Mordekaiser is feared for his grim manipulation of pain –both his own, and that of others. Anguish fuels and sustains him, serving as his last connection to life, as well as his most effective weapon. In his enigmatic hunt, he's proven no one is safe, for even the most courageous souls have surrendered their secrets in his grasp."

*** Mordekaiser is the devil and should represent it better:**

The way I read this is he is Satan in Paradise Lost. Satan said that he carried hell with him wherever he went, that it wasn't just a place but a state of being. Then this unknown quest could be Satan's plan to corrupt humanity as we know it, i.e. the fall. Also, Satan was the first sinner for betraying God, such as Mord is the first undead. So, with these things in mind, why can't he be the guy that brought the Shadow Isles with him, why can't he be the ruler of it. His name Mordekaiser literally means ruler/lord of the dead/murder/pain, and that would just be thematically coherent.

*** Let's actually make the armor part of his lore, thematically:**

We all know him as the "master of metal," and all of his abilities/passive and quotes do exemplify this. However, this armor doesn't have much to do with him being lord of the undead. Since I see him as a satan-like figure I asked myself how can his armor be part of his lore? The answer is that mordekaiser is physically bound to the Shadow Isles, much like Satan is in Hell. Satan cannot manifest himself physically in our world, and this is how the armor comes into play for Mord. He needs to find a way to show his presence in our world, i.e. the magical armor he is wearing. It is a medium, with which he can take souls without physically leaving the Shadow Isles. Then when the Shadow Isles is at its strongest (the harrowing) or halloween (Satan's day of reign), he can step out much further in his full physical form.

*** His kit is out of date:**

All of this might require a rework as well, because he is one of the weakest of the Shadow Isle champs. I'm not saying he is weak all around, but all he is right now is an early game bully. He usually falls off, and has one of the worst teamfights. He should find his identity as a true apc, or bruiser, to show how strong he should be in comparison to the rest of the shadow isle champs.

Tldr: Mordekaiser's current state visually and thematically are extremely dull. The lore hints at him being the ruler of the Shadow Isles, and is a parallel to Satan in Paradise Lost. If he receives a VU, then these changes could be implemented and make him a much more satisfying and powerful character.

Lots of good stuff here.

Mainly what I'd want to do, (and yes, he is on The List, but isn't prioritized at the moment) is to bring in to Mord what we're established with newer Shadow Isles champions like Hecarim, the new Karthus and now Kalista. He's absolutely ripe for that sort of treatment. Animated suit of armor, a tortured soul, or other such thing, inside.

I think what we've sort've done with with the Shadow Isles is to turn them from what they used to be, into a twisted embodiment of their past. Hence Hecrim having the centaur/cavalry thing, Karthus looking like a ceremonial death-pope, and Kalista being literally impaled.

That fits right in line with the direction we could take Morde. I think he'll be a lot of fun to work on, he's just noisy as hell right now, and also sized completely wrong. I do believe he needs a gameplay overhaul though before we can proceed on any production work.

A visual tunig is all he needs, I agree. The magnitude of said improvements is debatable though. VU MTU TU. I personally would prefer a VU like Karthus.

his champion concept and his gameplay dont mesh. he plays like a poke mage and looks like a tank. go in, hit e to waveclear and poke, and go back. his current gameplay revolves around him staying at a distance most of the time, widdling his opponent down with hit and run. theyve said in the past, they arent happy with the inconsistency between his theme (giant metal juggernaut) and the way he plays in the game.

expect a massive rework along the lines of sion.

first of all, they will update his model to the style of the other shadow isle champs. so expect greenish/teal glowing armor and particles. either his gameplay will change entirely, and he will be turned into an ap bruiser/tank, or his looks will change entirely and they will make him look like a mage, and keep his poke/waveclear style gameplay.

id expect his gameplay to drastically change. they probably want to keep his identity as immobile, big, in-your-face-metal-juggernaut more than his poke/mage gameplay.

I would love to see Morde get an update to bring up to speed with the other champions. I hope Adam Harrington will still voice Mordekaiser.

IMO his kit still works great and plays like a big beefy tank. You just build like a mage. But he needs a VU.

This might sound crazy but. Max W. Walk into minions. Then just farm/maintain your barrier. Never aim at the enemy champion. Just the minions. Kill the wave so fast it pushes straight to the tower, and let the tower reset the wave. Laugh as the minions provide barrier to shrug off any and all harass. I'm simplifying it a bit. But I have no CC. No mobility skills. AND I JUST WALK ALL OVER THE LANE LIKE I OWN IT.

He hard counters assassins. He really likes CDR but nobody builds it on him. And once you have Dfg and void staff on top of your Will of the Ancients/Gunblade you 100-0 adcs and mages. With the farm you get you won't have much trouble affording it.

And I've never been forced out of lane as Morde (Actually, once from a Gnar. He counters you). He's just super oppressive in lane.

The other thing is you need balls. I mean BALLS to make plays with Morde because you're often running right back into a 2v1 and relying on your burst to win you the trade. 80% of the time I'm ganked I walk into their minions and stay to fight. Most of the time it's worked out.

Though. All that aside (And knowing some "Genius" is going to tear my whole opinion apart) I feel there are a few things that are core to his kit if Riot ever reworks him.

-His Passive and heavy damage mitigation when play smart (Damage enemies/minions. Block damage) -Lane bully (Pushes the lane, hard to damage, very good sustain -Heavy burst (Ever sat in a bush a let out your whole combo on their adc?) -A long DoT ult that gives a pet

I say all this, as a Mordekaiser main. He is my comfort pick in ranked top and mid and I always do well with him. Early game I shut down my opponent. Mid-game I push, ward up, and 1v2/ambush people who come for me. Late game I 100-0 the their damage dealers and make them our own.

Appearance and positioning, feeling very strange! His appearance made me feel that he is a powerful warrior and tank

Just saying his mace is supposed to be as big as he is

wow that first pic is how Morde should exactly look like in his VU, almost just as big as new Sion..

AbiwonKenabi11/11/2014, 6:05:20 PM2 votes

If I had to guess, I'd say that he is on the radar. I couldn't tell you where, but I'm pretty sure I've seen someone (probably IronStylus) comment on this. Who knows when I even saw this though. I feel the pizza feet are evidence alone.

Mordekaiser is definitely too damn small. He's supposed to be this massive intimidating suit of armor and he's shorter than TF in-game I'm pretty sure. Some of his abilities just look bad too, like his shield hurt-y thing (I don't play Morde at all, can you tell?). Its kind of unclear what it does and just looks like a bunch of scrap metal rotating around the character.

Other than the obvious touch-up, I feel his design is actually pretty cool. They did a texture pass on some of his skins (definitely Pentakill Morde, not sure about the others) that look pretty good, but I think that's just a band-aid solution until ChampUp get their hands on him. I think it goes without saying his lore needs work as well.

Chromatic Eagle11/11/2014, 8:48:40 PM2 votes

Seeing as how they're working on the Shadow Isles, there's no real reason why he wouldn't receive some type of update.

BakugoBestBoy11/11/2014, 8:56:37 PM2 votes

What would you do if Morde was actually stong? The problem with Morde is that he has a bad design. Like Aatrox, if his numbers and scalings were actually good enough to take advantage of his design, he would be completely broken. His entire strat is "imma hurt you so you can't hurt me, but wait you ran away too long I gots ta go smack a minion so you cantz hurt meh". If it wasn't so easy to harass him when his shield is down or to just flat out kite him to death he would be unstoppable. So yeah, go ahead and give him a VU so he's big and demonic and scary but it won't make Riot ever buff him out of his weak state. Idk who Morde is good against early. It's definitely not Talon though. That was a fun game...

Merxamers11/11/2014, 9:14:34 PM2 votes

RiotCarnival has mentioned Morde a few times, so he IS on the radar. I feel he could use a full-deal upgrade; i like his theme and style, and have been playing him since i started playing the game, but his kit is really lackluster. IT could be a lot cooler, besides 'adding a slow to his Q' or something lame like that

Tengrichan11/12/2014, 6:00:05 PM1 votes

His ulti must go in its current form.

Rework idea:

Mordekaiser deals magic dmg to a target enemy champion.Enslaving the soul of the enemy champion Mordekaiser raises an iron soldier from the grave to battle on his side. The soldier appears next to the targeted enemy champion or next to Mordekaiser.Don't know which would be more beneficial for Morde. The Iron soldier mimics Mordekaiser's abilities (Q,W,E) and can be controlled like the ghost. The Iron soldier : -can be killed as a ghost -has less hp than a ghost or Morde so it's not an overwhelming force -as mentioned above it mimics Mordekaiser abilities with full dmg -enemies hit by both Mordekaiser and his Iron soldier will take damage only once(So if an enemy get hit by two E it will take damage only from one E)!!!

Enemy champions hit by both Mordekaiser and his soldier's ability will suffer some additional stuff . Maybe CC? Or Mordekaiser gains some bonus by outplaying the enemy.

So his whole binary gameplay within ghost goes out of the window and he can be actually balanced.

His Q must remain in his kit.

Remember, to give him cc powers or gapclosers is to tone down his power in other areas. Don't wish for something you'll sooner regret.

I think there are many others like me (Mordecaites unite!) that would agree that the fact that Morde is the only champion with no CC or mobility whatsoever is incredibly important to his character and play style. I would hate to see Rito add a snare or stun or slow to his kit because I think that lack of CC/mobility is unique to Morde and shouldn't be changed. This gives Morde blatantly obvious weaknesses, and allows for some blatantly obvious strengths.

My picture of Morde is

Pros: -a sizable threat at all stages of the game (lane bully early, strong burst/dps and/or Xv1 potential lategame) -Lots of damage + very tanky (even if building mostly damage) -Very strong pusher

Cons: -Extremely weak to CC/kiting -Can be bullied out of lane/shut down easily depending on the skill of both players (flat HP costs) -Moderately close/medium range, very skill dependent for damage and tankiness (passive shield)

I say that we emphasize his strengths and weaknesses with a gameplay update, not a full-blown rework, his kit is fine with a few tweaks:

Q: ***Morde’s next basic attack gains increased range and swings in an arc in front of him, dealing reduced damage for each additional enemy hit, to a minimum. Always deals minimum damage to structures.

What this does is keeps the same concept of the old Q, can be used for AoE clear/skirmishes, or can be used to burst a single target down, with a far more forgiving “isolation” mechanic. Also, allowing this skill to damage towers makes him more than just a walking kiting machine, as now you ACTUALLY have to deal with him or you’ll start losing towers fast, meaning you’ll likely be getting up in his face, right where he wants you. Morde players can now have more strategic diversity in how and when they decide to push or take objectives.

W: I think this ability could use a passive bonus to AR/MR, perhaps even making it scale with the number of creeps/champs he’s killed? Currently, Morde’s max rank W grants 30 AR and MR, which is useful given his near infinite health bar, but at the same time is incredibly lackluster. I mean Annie’s E grants 50 AR and MR at max rank, which is silly by comparison. So ultimately, Morde’s W would grant passive AR and MR, and upon activation would give a flat amount + the passive amount to whomever he put the shield on. This would make Morde much more naturally tanky, thus further amplifying his strength, while still not having any CC or mobility. This means that Morde will either be pushing lanes and forcing you to stop him, or trying to be in the middle of teamfights so that he can soak up as much damage as possible while dishing out his own.

E:*** Morde smashes his mace into the ground, dealing damage to enemies in a cone in front of him. Enemies hit are marked for a short duration. Auto attacking a marked enemy removes the mark and reduces all of Morde’s cooldowns by .5 seconds, double for champions.

Currently on live, this skill is delicate in that nerfing it would make it near useless while buffing it would make it broken. Yet it’s Morde’s main damaging/waveclearing skill. The gameplay update I am suggesting here shifts more of his power into Morde’s Q, with his E actually serving more of a spammable utility while still allowing him its use as a waveclear/damage tool.

Tell me, what are your opinions on how this could possibly work? Keep in mind this is just my preferred vision of Morde, and I know Rito likes to hear what we all have to say about some of our favorite champions.
